THE BEATLES - 'BUTCHER ALBUM'
The butcher album is among the most collectible and sought after records of all time.
This outstanding #3 RIAA mono example might just pass for a first state at first glance—and with near mint disk labels, and complete with inner sleeve, this set is an absolutely perfect candidate for framing!
Understanding the 'Butcher Album':
When "Yesterday and Today" was released in 1966, its original artwork (the infamous butcher portrait!) was so unpopular at the time, that it sparked absolute outrage. Capitol quickly recalled the 'vulgar' album with intentions of changing the design. However, a few escaped (And I mean few. Out of the millions sold, only a few thousand exist in this state!) These first states never had anything pasted over them, and can command upwards of $40,000 sealed! Rather than throw the recalled covers out, Capitol 'recycled' them, and pasted a new slick on top. These second states can easily be identified by searching for Ringo's V-Neck sweater through the white paste-over. Second states easily reach $4,000 sealed. The third states are thus simply second states, which by exposure to human curiosity, have been peeled to reveal the original 'controversial' image.

The labels have some wear around the spindle hole.
Visual: VERY GOOD
The vinyl is very shiny, and has that great vinyl luster. There are, however, several hairline scratches and scuffs.
Sound Quality: VERY GOOD
Great, warm sound reproduction! Expected surface noise.
Sleeve: EXCELLENT-
The butcher is absolutely beautiful! The front of the sleeve has virtually no ring wear, soiling, and only a very small amount of discoloration to the white border. The butcher image is near perfect! On the bottom, however, there is some wear, and two 1/2 square inch spots that were repaired. Please look at the pictures, and enjoy; you will not be disapointed with this one!The back cover does have a small amount of ring wear, and a 1/4 inch line of green ballpoint.
Sharp corners, great legible spine! Very minimal & almost undetectable 1 1/2 inch separation of spine. Easily repairable (or repairable at buyer's request...at own risk).
