VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO (also known as “BANANA COVER”)
This is an incredibly rare, and great album. This is the original 1967 Verge mono LP V-5008 with the banana sticker and the uncensored, original picture of a man’s torso on the back cover (Eric Emerson’s torso is uncensored, uncovered, un-airbrushed and clearly visible – see the pictures).
This is a real treasure – the incredibly rare ‘first-state’ version of the cover with Eric Emerson’s torso hanging upside-down. This is incredibly rare because Verve was almost immediately forced to apply a large sticker over the torso because of a lawsuit. Later pressings had the torso airbrushed out.
This is the original U.S. pressing.
Condition – the record is near mind; but the cover is only good.
The peelable banana sticker is completely intact, with no part missing. At some point, though, someone tried to remove the top of the sticker. There are no tears, but there are lines in the sticker which show that someone tried to peek behind it. This is a real and rare treasure, but it was not kept in mint condition. It probably sat in someone’s record collection.
Condition – Record
The record is in near mint Condition. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. The record comes in its original stock inner sleeve, but, oddly, that sleeve has been turned inside out. The record is mono and it sounds fantastic. And there’s no ‘snap, crackle or pop.’
Condition - Cover
The cover has some record and seam wear. These imperfections are clear in the pictures. The cover is darkened at the bottom and top where the record pressed against the cardboard and the seam is split along the top of the album. There are no cut-out corners or holes, but there is a tiny white label stuck near the top of the cover (see the picture).
