LP a copertina apribile laminata. Rara seconda ristampa del 1978, in splendido stato di conservazione, del primo disco dei Velvet Underground, che in questa versione presenta come nell’ originale del 1967, sulla parte frontale della copertina, la famosa buccia di banana di Andy Warhol adesiva, con inserto di 2 pagine con testi in inglese e note biografiche e senza codice a barre sul lato posteriore della copertina. OBI a colori a sfondo giallo e verde scuro, riportante il prezzo di 2.300 Yen.

I Velvet Underground sono stati un gruppo rock statunitense formatosi nel 1964 e attivo fino al 1973. Nel 1993 si riunirono nuovamente per un tour mondiale, per poi sciogliersi definitivamente a causa dei dissidi interni e della morte del chitarrista Sterling Morrison. Considerati uno dei gruppi rock più influenti di tutti i tempi e precursori di diversi generi che avrebbero poi preso piede nei decenni successivi (come il rock alternativo, la new wave, il punk rock, il noise o il post rock), i Velvet si formarono a New York (città da cui hanno tratto profonda ispirazione) grazie all'incontro tra l'allora studente universitario Lou Reed e John Cale, giovane musicista d'avanguardia ed allievo di La Monte Young. Al gruppo si unirono poi Sterling Morrison alla chitarra e Angus MacLise alla batteria, sostituito poco dopo da Maureen “Moe” Tucker. Lo stile innovativo da loro proposto ha portato alla nascita di un nuovo modo di eseguire e concepire la musica e ha esercitato un profondo impatto su moltissime rock band venute dopo. Vengono in genere considerati un'importante influenza per la nascita della scena musicale alternativa e tra gli iniziatori del rock indipendente. Il loro esordio, The Velvet Underground & Nico, prodotto da Andy Warhol (il quale disegnò anche la celebre banana sbucciabile in copertina, evidente allusione fallica) e uscito nel 1967, è considerato uno dei più importanti e influenti dischi rock di sempre, «una pietra miliare per le band del punk, della new wave e perfino del post-rock» nonché un decisivo passo avanti per quanto riguarda la rottura dei limiti dei temi affrontabili nel testo di una canzone (vita metropolitana, droga, deviazione sessuale). L'anno dopo segue White Light/White Heat, lavoro ancora più ostico e sperimentale ma pur sempre seminale, il quale accentuava il lato avanguardistico del gruppo con arrangiamenti cacofonici, minimali e pesanti distorsioni chitarristiche, esasperando i cupi concetti di fondo esorditi nel primo album. Il disco conteneva brani fortemente sperimentali come Sister Ray, lunga suite composta da continue distorsioni di chitarra e una batteria martellante dalla ritmica ossessiva della durata di oltre diciassette minuti, considerata a posteriori un classico del rock più estremo e uno dei primi esempi riconosciuti di generi musicali a venire come punk, heavy metal o noise. Dopo l'abbandono di John Cale, i Velvet pubblicarono The Velvet Underground nel 1969 e Loaded nel 1970, che riflettono entrambi il loro lato più intimista, classico e folk. Nel 1970 anche Reed lasciò il gruppo per dedicarsi alla carriera solista. Dopo l'abbandono di Reed i reduci pubblicheranno un album apocrifo (Squeeze) utilizzando il nome Velvet Underground. Nel 1996 furono introdotti nella Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Nel 2004 la rivista musicale Rolling Stone li ha inseriti al numero 19 nella sua lista dei 100 migliori artisti di tutti i tempi.

The Velvet Underground & Nico è considerato a posteriori uno degli album fondamentali nella storia del rock, una pietra miliare cui numerosi artisti si sarebbero ispirati in futuro, l'album in realtà non riscosse un particolare successo commerciale al momento della sua pubblicazione. Insieme alla band (che all'epoca consisteva in Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison e Maureen "Moe" Tucker) figurava la cantante tedesca Nico in tre canzoni (Femme Fatale, All Tomorrow's Parties e I'll Be Your Mirror). La ragazza venne invitata dal produttore e amico Andy Warhol.Tutte le canzoni che formano il disco sono state registrate in due soli giorni, in un decrepito studio di New York, lo Scepter Studios, nell'aprile del 1966. Le incisioni vennero finanziate da Warhol e dalla Columbia Records, che si interessò con la speranza di poter vendere il prodotto ad un'altra compagnia. Columbia, Atlantic Records e Elektra Records rifiutarono, ma la sconosciuta Verve Records, che era molto interessata all'alternative rock, accettò. La rivista Rolling Stone ha inserito il disco al 13° posto nella sua classifica dei migliori 500 album della storia. The Velvet Underground and Nico è a volte chiamato "banana album" per via della cover raffigurante una banana disegnata da Andy Warhol. The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in 1964 and active until 1973. Reunited again in 1993 for a world tour, and then finally dissolved because of internal strife and the death of guitarist Sterling Morrison. Considered one of the most influential rock bands of all time and precursors of different genres that would eventually caught on in the following decades (such as alternative rock, new wave, punk rock, noise or post-rock), The Velvet formed New York (city from which they drew deep inspiration) thanks to a meeting between the then university student Lou Reed and John Cale, a young avant-garde musician and student of La Monte Young.
