The Smiths - 'Debut Album' Japanese LP - 1984

This auction is for a very rare edition of The Smiths' 1984 debut album on Tokuma Japanese vinyl. This item is complete with the original OBI strip and fold-out 6 page insert containing Japanese and English lyrics together with photos of the band. This copy is particularly collectable in that it comes with an extremely rare red flexi disc featuring an interview done in October 1983 at Strawberry Studios during the recording of the album. This flexi disc accompanied the very first copies of the Japanese LP sold, and has become highly sought-after in recent times. Only the very first few pressings of this LP came with the red flexi disc, and this was indicated by the small white circle (printed, not a sticker) containing Japanese text on the OBI strip (see photos). Note that the red flexi disc is often sold with the wrong version of the LP, in other words the slightly later pressing of the LP which didn't have the white circle on the OBI strip; this might happen if the red flexi disc got separated from its original LP and was later paired up with a more common later pressing. This is the correct pairing as can be seen from the photos, making it a particularly desirable item. In Record Collector's Top 100 list of Smiths collectables the LP (with flexi disc) was placed at Number 18 and given a value of 100.00 (see photo).The record itself is practically mint, with the vinyl and labels showing very little sign of having been played; there are no marks at all on the vinyl and it retains its original glossy sheen. The flexi disc is also in absolutely mint condition and looks as though it has not been played. The lyric insert shows no visible signs of handling and the sleeve and OBI strip are in at least excellent condition, retaining their original glossy appearance and having no major signs of wear. There are only very light bumps to one or two of the corners of the sleeve (primarily the upper-left corner as shown in the photo) and all edges are sharp with no seam splits. The OBI strip has only very minor 'ripples' in places, and has a few regions in which the delicate surface of the OBI strip has darkened or lightened with age but it is very presentable indeed. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the yellow 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
