The Smiths - 'Debut Album' Japanese LP First Pressing With Red Flexi Disc - 1984

This auction is for a very rare vinyl pressing of The Smiths' 1984 debut album on the Japanese Tokuma label. All Japanese vinyl pressings are highly prized by collectors owing to the superb audio quality of the vinyl and the lavish packaging with which they are accompanied. This copy is a terrific item to own, and comes complete with the original 'OBI' strip and fold-out 6 page insert containing Japanese and English lyrics along with photos of the band. In addition this is one of the very first pressing run which was denoted by a white circle on the 'OBI' strip (see photo) and was issued with an extremely rare red flexi disc featuring an interview done in October 1983 at Strawberry Studios during the recording of the album. This red flexi disc in itself has become a highly sought-after collectors' item in recent times due to the very limited numbers which are in existence. In Record Collector's Top 100 list of Smiths collectables in 2005 this Japanese LP with the red flexi disc was placed at Number 18 and, as an item placed so highly, it seems likely that its value will continue to rise as the popularity of original Smiths and Morrissey vinyl continues to escalate.The record itself is in near mint condition, with the vinyl having been played a few times but having been extremely well looked-after; there are no marks on the vinyl and it retains its original glossy 'sheen'. The flexi disc is in absolutely mint condition and has almost certainly never been played. The lyric insert shows practically no signs of handling, so is in very rare near mint condition also. The sleeve and 'OBI' strip are in strong excellent condition, having no major signs of wear at all. All edges are sharp, and there is just some extremely mild 'corner wear' in places which is barely noticeable. There are no sticker marks, writing or significant creases on the sleeve, and no seam splitting. The OBI strip has some small and minor creases in a few places on the reverse only, and some very light marks in a few places on the front which are only seen when held to the light. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
