Offered for sale is a rare single by The Dead Weather issued as a "Triple Decker" single.  The clear vinyl 12" single contains a black vinyl 7" inside it.  This item was issued on Record Store Day in 2010 and was limited to 300 copies.

The Dead Weather are one of many of Jack White's side projects, and they formed in 2009.  In 2010, the band released a special single in the innovative (and problematic; read on) "Triple Decker" format.  This 12" single consists of the tracks Blue Blood Blues on one side and No Hassle Night/I Just Want to Make Love to You on the other.  This single was pressed on clear vinyl, and contained a black vinyl 7" with the tracks I Feel Strange and Untitled inside it.  The two halves of the 12" were glued together and you had to take the single apart to get to the 7", which was available only as part of the Triple Decker single.  This item was made to be sold on Record Store Day in 2010, and was limited to 300 copies.  Most of them were sold at a store in Nashville, Tennessee.

The idea probably looked good on paper, but as anyone who has tried to open one of these knows, it's nearly impossible to get the 7" single out without cracking the 12" single that protects it.  Many, if not most, of the 300 copies are now cracked or broken.

The copy offered for sale is one of those cracked copies.  The A side, Blue Blood Blues, is intact, but the B side, containing the tracks No Hassle Night/I Just Want to Make Love to You was cracked when the previous owner made his one and only attempt to open it to remove the 7" single inside, which, to this day, remains untouched and unplayed.  There is a crack in the B side that measures approximately 2" in length, rendering one side of the single unplayable.

Mint, uncracked copies of this single have sold for nearly $2000.  This one, understandably, is priced much lower.  It remains one of the rarest items in the Jack White/White Stripes world, and the single inside is new, unplayed, and unavailable elsewhere.

The record otherwise grades at VG++, with just a few scuffs from being removed from the heavy plastic sleeve.  The sleeve has 4" splits on one side and on the bottom.

A great, if imperfect, Jack White/White Stripes/Third Man collectible.
