Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS including full side protection and bubble wrap, the records removed from the covers of course. All this very safe packing means I lose money on every box I post, but safe delivery is, and will always be paramount. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives. Also, I will pay for insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received if possible. Label/Format: Fly – original ‘Fly’ format on side one, and the beautiful customised Bolan and Finn graphic on two. These have a matt, quite smooth surfaces.

Label Conditions: Both very clean, fresh and attractive with only three or four mild fine spindle marks on side one (the fly side), and struggling to see any all on the graphic side. Fly is one of my favourite label designs, and to have such a superb picture of Bolan and Finn on side two makes a perfect combination for this legendary album.

Rarity: Scarce as a complete first issue. All elements of this album are hard to find in decent conditions and many examples seen are trashed with heavy usage, parts missing or badly damaged. The cover especially is massively prone to wear and few are worth of a second look. This is a very fine example with full descriptions further down. The record plays very well and appears little used.

Brief Artist & Album Info: Bolan, Finn, Currie and Legend at the start of their glam-rock popularity, they could do little wrong at this time and Electric Warrior is arguably their greatest album ever. Now regarded as a genuine ‘classic’, this album sold well and reached No 1 in the UK album charts, but a little less well in the United States peaking at 32. Bolan’s near nonsense lyrics never sounded better, he made them sound like poetry. Including two major hit singles in ‘Jeepster’ and ‘Get it On’, this could not fail – and didn’t. This, along with Ziggy-era Bowie was British glam-rock at it’s very best. Backing vocals are provided by Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan, former Turtles and then members of Zappa’s Mothers of Invention. An album getting increasingly difficult to find in any form, the early originals with the stickered cover, graphic inner sleeve and poster especially so. Many were bought by teenagers of the time and they got played into submission and mostly played on very basic record players. The posters used, often faded, torn and discarded and never easy to find unmounted and near mint. And the covers rife with heavy rubbing and ugly ring wear are almost the norm these days. Do not under-estimate how challenging this rarity is to find complete like this.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: or very close to. A single unlaminated format with matt, smooth surfaces. This has the original poster promotion sticker on the front. This was fairly quickly omitted from later copies and many owners would have removed it when purchased, thus some early covers are seen with huge sticker tears and marks. Printed and made in England by the Garrod & Lofthouse (an E. J. Day Group version was also made). The poster and inner sleeve are both included.

Cover Front: Not to put too finer a point on it – this cover is VERY hard to find without often significant and heavy wear. Black and gold ink and unprotected with a thick record inside are a sure-fire recipes for ring wear and rubbing. Not only that, the card is very thin, so heavy creasing is seldom avoided either. I regard it as one of the most difficult of the commercial covers to find in anything like decent condition. This front has little wear overall, with amongst the least rubbing I have seen, it has little as all. It does have a little creasing, but even these are only quite fine, and importantly, have no broken the ink to expose the card surface, so they show far less than they could have done. The surface is clean and still fresh, the sticker being very clean and clearly not picked at or removed, just a few fine card creases are seen beneath it. Overall an attractive front and one that can still be held and enjoyed.

Cover Back: The back is even better with little to fault. Minimal very fine edge hairlines only, but the lack of rubbing and especially ugly ring wear are massive pluses. Check against other sold in the past and see the difference.

Top Edge: Thin, but still very straight with minimal traces of wear or rubbing.

Bottom Edge: This has only fairly light, slightly patchy rubbing. Few black storage edges escape this and almost has to be expected.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Any thickening to the very thin card little and light, The record enters here.

Spine and Text: A very thin spine, but still solid, straight with any mild compression patcy, the ends are deeply pinched in manufacture. The surface and folds with hardly any rubbing, and naturally so. Against the odds, the delicate gold text is fully intact, this clearer than most I have seen and easy to read – gold on black does not highlight the text usually this well. For good measure, the text is very well centred which is always nice.

Corners: Light to moderate tip rubbing with very fine shape retained with no knocks, so tip creasing has been avoided.

Cover Summary: Given the near impossible nature of this very dark cover, this an impressive all-round example, and one that could prove very difficult to find substantially better. Yes, a few light, mainly quite fine surface creases on the front, but the lack of rubbing and ring wear will rarely be avoided better. The inclusion of the scarce and attractive sticker another plus. This lovely feature looks very impressive. Most fans and collector will know how difficult this one is and this fine example should please many fans and collectors alike.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): an unlined and fragile inner that is superbly illustrated with pictures of Bolan and Finn. With a typically heavy record inside, these do not wear well either – so often with heavy edge splits, but this one is fully intact. This is an impressive example with any discolouration relatively mild to politely remind of age. The lack of creasing and tearing are massive pluses, this beautiful piece of double-sided art will prove difficult to find better.

The Poster: EXCELLENT(++): unmounted or displayed, e.g. no pin-holes or tape marks anywhere. With many copies of this album purchased by teenagers of the time, many were wall-hung, often ripped down, torn, damaged, or even discarded altogether – hence many copies fail to even include it now. Printed one side only, the plain back is only gently discoloured but the front is superb as-seen. This copy printed on high-quality gently textured and watermarked paper which remains crisp and all folds solid with minimal creasing to the paper surface. For extra good measure, the poster is ultra neatly folded, so no overhangs which has helped preserved the general sharpness of the edges. An achievement to even find it these days, finding one unmounted or damaged is proving increasingly difficult and this will prove hard to find better.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a superb visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface traces few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright light. No penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, hardly anything even registers. Rarely seen like this with so many played to destruction by younger fans of the day on the most basic record players tracking at eye-watering weights. Yes, I remember the days when school-friends put coins on headshells to stack and track singles just to keep the stylus in the grooves. It makes me cringe thinking about it, but it was a common practice and these glam-rock albums often got the same treatment. This beauty appears hardly used, and certainly never abused and visually a super record that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This T. Rex classic album plays up to and most even above it’s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear – sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues* or inherent pressing noises. Few available copies will outperform this early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled. Nothing of any note spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this lovely record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams. Records are a ‘contact’ format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new Nessie Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
