Description
Hello. Up for sale are five 12” (33 1/3 rpm) radio promo discs and one 7” disc. I’m selling off my radio ad disc collection, so here’s your chance to buy some unusual records. Here’s what you’ll get:
- Hourly News Intro for station WLLY, 78rpm, 9-13-59, single-sided, four tracks all :15 each. Spots are all different highlighting WLLY as “action central” and having “jet stream news.” Sound effects are generally tympani and morse code.
- [all other discs are 12” at 33 1/3 rpm] Various German language spots, Jack Jaeger, Associated Sound Recorders, Inc., Santa Clara, California, CH 1-2666. Most spots are :60 with several in the :45 range and a few :30. Although most of the dialogue is in German, some lines are spoken in English. Side 1 (marked #5) has 11 spots. I believe a couple are for Volkswagen, a few are for a German Travel Service, and others are for a restaurant (described as a Parisian Delicatessen). The final spot on this side is 1:20 and it’s a great one. It begins with piano music, then a very weird deep voice speaks in German, then a woman talks about a Parisian Delicatessen in San Jose. Several of the spots on this side are for businesses in San Francisco. Side 2 (marked #6) has 15 spots, again all in German. These feature a different announcer, but most of the ads seem to be for the same businesses as described on Side 1. Most of these spots appear to be around :30 to :45. The first spot might be for a hamburger joint in San Francisco.
- Sounds to Alert Americans, Dramatized Civil Defense Announcements, SS-61, announcer Frank Gallop, GXTV 80782. For those of you familiar with these discs, there are some GREAT “danger, warning, be on alert, scare listener” spots. Side 1 contains 10 tracks, all :60. See photo for list. Side 2 contains 10 spots, all :20.
- Thesaurus, RCA, The Lawrence Welk Christmas Program, 1975-A, Master Number G7-OP-9541. Side 1 overall time is 28:44. This side has Welk narrating a Christmas show, where guests offer their Xmas greetings and wishes. Guests include Hank Snow, Johnny Desmond, Evelyn (Hour of Charm violinist/voice), and a few more. This side also features standard Xmas songs. It ends with a farewell by Welk and full version of Bubbles in the Wine. Side 2 overall time is 9:28. This is a program featuring the voice of Ray Middleton. First Ray introduces a story to be read by Gregory Peck titled “Lullaby of Christmas.” The story must be on a separate disc because it is not heard. Ray comes back and thanks Peck for the story, then introduces an extremely bizarre song about Mary and Joseph. This one has to be heard to be believed. The disc ends with Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem and a sign-off by Ray hoping for world peace.
- Thesaurus, Sell-O-Rama, K7-MP-1340, Commercial Library Demonstration, announcer Saul Alpiner. This is a full length LP (both sides). Extremely COOL disc offering (mostly) jingles and sales tools to radio stations from the RCA library. Side 1 is a single, continuous sales pitch track (about ten minutes) covering all of the bases. It opens with a generic jingle for sale: “This is the right spot on your dial, The modern sound is bright and clear…” You’ll also hear jingles being utilized by various stations and companies including WDEL (1150) in Delaware; a Royal Crown jingle from WETU in Alabama; and a Lumber Dealer jingle from WNTR in Morristown, NJ (“Timber!”). The announcer also offers prospective buyers “modern sound effects” such as weird electronic sounds that are “out of this world” and a real countdown recorded live at Cape Canaveral. Along with “dramatic sound effects” comes “echo attention getters.” You’ll hear a catch phrase with plenty of echo/reverb: “Shoe Sale! Shoe Sale! Shoe Sale!” There’s even a spot from Sears Roebuck. Too much to list. Side 2 has four tracks. #1 features “Individualized Station ID Jingles – Recorded Call Letters” and offers TWENTY examples. GREAT! #2 offers “Station ID Jingles with Live Announcer.” #3 offers “Special Features” including “Miss Sales Appeal (sexy voice), Action Attention Getters, Personality Themes (Here’s that man again…) and more. #4 offers “Shop at the Store with the Mike on the Door” promotions. You’ll hear a spot delivered by Lawrence Welk telling listeners to always “Shop at the Door…”
- WRVA, Richmond Virginia, Baseball Sounds for On Deck Circle, January 1965, double-sided. Long playing LP (both sides) recorded on an Audiodisc record. Don’t expect too much from this one. If it was made to fool someone into thinking they are at a ball game – forget it. You’ll hear a small concert band playing a march, someone hitting two sticks together to represent a player getting a hit, and one guy in the background doing a lot of yelling. Other sounds include traffic noises. I don’t know what the heck this is for but the production values are non-existent.
The winning bidder to pay $5 for Media shipping with Delivery Confirmation. Sorry, no Canada or Overseas on this auction. Buy more than one lot and the shipping stays the same. Thanks and good luck!
