Description
This collection of 21 issuances of the famed Sub Pop Singles club deserves an owner with more time and will to treasure them. Or at least an owner with a record player. All of these are in excellent shape. In some cases, the little plastic baggie that holds the jacket has a staple hole, but all jackets and discs are in pristine condition.
According to the Sub Pop website:
"The Sub Pop Singles Club was a legendary mail delivery service that provided the subscriber with one 7" single per month by one of the most talented and physically attractive bands of the day. The madness began in November 1988 with the now mythic Nirvana 'Love Buzz' single and continued through five years of unadulterated bliss, finally reaching its end with Lou Barlow's 'I Am Not Mocking You'. … For a good indication of the caliber of music you will be receiving just take a look at some of the bands that participated in the first incarnation: Smashing Pumpkins, Fugazi, The Flaming Lips, Sonic Youth, Rapeman, Unrest, Rocket From the Crypt, Jon Spencer, Ween, Soundgarden, Afghan Whigs, Poster Children, The Muffs, Reverend Horton Heat and lots more."
Most of the bands mentioned above are included in this collection. I will NOT break up the set -- please don't email asking if you can buy just the Lubricated Goat record or whatever. And because some actually featured two or more bands, you'll sample more than 20 groups. And many of the discs have more than one song per side. The 7-inch from the great Lou Barlow, for example, has FIVE songs on it! And most are on funky-colored vinyl. Shipping is $8 and I'll pack 'em up really nicely. I'm displaying photos of only 12 of the 20 issues because I got tired of scanning them.

* MUDHONEY I always thought this band was overrated, but the song on this disc "Touch Me, I'm Sick" is probably their catchiest. I dunno, it's like so obvious. For the last chorus, instead of singing "Touch me, I'm sick," the lyric changes to "F* me, I'm sick," as though the insertion of the gratuitous and omnipresent f word could possibly intensify the already goofy sentiment
* FUGAZI (Three songs, including Song #1, which is their all-time best)
* HENRY ROLLINS BAND
* GREEN MAGNET SCHOOL
* PAIN TEENS
* LOVE BATTERY
* SHONEN KNIFE Also overrated. The delight American audiences took in this band was kind of patronizing -- "Oh my gosh, I can't believe a group of Japanese women can play guitars and write songs." Some of their stuff, like "Twist Barbie" was arguably pretty fun, but other than the novelty, this was a forgettable band.

* The Singles Club of Feb and March 92 was a combined package that shows why this was such a fun subscription. There's a total of eight groups on these two discs:
TAR, COWS, HELMET, HELIOS CREED, VERTIGO, BOSS HOG, G-D BULLIES, and SURGERY The similarity of all these bands' names is kind of funny.
* July 1991 featured another double disc: SONIC YOUTH, LAUGHING HYENAS, THESE IMMORTAL SOULS, and GUMBALL covering Alice Cooper's "Under My Wheels"
