This outstanding copy dates from early 1969 and is the final issue with Yellow Parlophone labels, before E.M.I. in all its wisdom, decided to change to the insipid silver/grey design later that same year. We can date this accurately, as it is the only yellow A Hard Day's Night label not to carry the 'Sold in U.K.' text which still appeared on the album 'Yellow Submarine' released in January 1969 before being dropped. It was also the last opportunity to buy the album in Mono format, as the 'new' label only offered the album in Stereo. First pressings of this album appeared with -3N / -3N matrix endings (in mono) and these remain unchanged on this later copy.

THE DISC: 3N/3N matrix endings Stampers: 8-MDP 8-ALR
EX- All tracks play CLOSE to MINT. Crystal clear with no appreciable deterioration in sound quality at all. However, there is noticeable static noise/rumble through the run-ins; hence the EX- grading rather than higher. ALL tracks are unaffected by this and play without any audible interference; not even a single 'pop'. Even the gentle 'And I Love Her' plays perfectly and without any unwanted background interference. An outstanding original copy.
NEAR MINT Visually, this disc looks as it did the first time it left the inner sleeve. The vinyl surfaces gleam like new and I cannot see any lines or marks, even against reflected daylight. If I stare for long enough and keep tilting the disc there are a few inevitable wispy lines, which are in keeping with removal and return to the protective inner sleeve. This is the best disc I have ever had, visually. The labels too, have a wonderful freshness with vibrant text and barely any spindle trails. There are just a few each side, which are tiny and close to the hole (as you can see in the photos).
CROSSOVER LABELS In 1969 E.M.I. re-released all previous Beatles albums as final issues on the Yellow parlophone label. Although 'Sold In U.K.' was no longer applicable, it was an opportunity to use up a lot of surplus stock labels, as long as at least one side carried the new missing information. These mismatched labels appear from time to time on all Beatles albums. Interestingly enough though, there are also subtle differences too. On the correct label the Parlophone lettering is thinner and the £ logo is coloured-in more. The words 'Trade Mark' are also less prominent, signalling the demise of the previously high quality labels. THE COVER:
VG This is the correct small 'Mono' tri-flipback cover issued for this pressing. It is in reasonably good condition with no tears or laminate separation. The pinched ends spine is perfect. However, there are perimeter wrinkles, as well as a fairly noticeable pressure dent just under the 'mono' indicator. The unprotected back panel has age toned and has the retail price of 36/6 written in pencil, which could be erased but is part of its history now. This figure which stands for 36 shillings and 6 pence is the equivalent in today's currency of £1.82 / $2.35.
THE INNER SLEEVE:
EX Correct, L.P. advertising, 'Patents Applied For' issue. All the seams are completely intact with no disc penetration. Age toned but again, a lovely original issue. Among the albums advertised are Sgt. Pepper's as well as the Scaffold with Paul's brother Mike McCartney featured on the right of the trio.
