Steamhammer started out as a blues-rock band in Worthing, Sussex, but gradually developed
into a more heavy progressive style. Their debut Steamhammer included the self-penned Junior's Wailing,
which was later covered by Status Quo. Indeed it became an important part of Status Quo's live act
as they evolved into a 12-bar boogie band. Pugh and Quittenton assisted Rod Stewart on his first album
and Quittenton stayed with Stewart co-writing Maggie May with him and playing mandolin on the million-selling disc.
When Steve Jolliffe (ex-Tangerine Dream) joined, their music on Steamhammer Mk II
became jazzier and all the better for his harpsichord parts
"STEAMHAMMER"
Steamhammer's debut LP was just called "Steamhammer". Check the original UK CBS release labels.
"Reflection" was a series (sub-label) of CBS that later went independent - not the album title.
It wasn't until later, when a typographer for the Dutch/German CBS press misinterpreted the Reflection logo
on the front cover as the title (that release also switched the inside/outside covers)

Steamhammer is also-ran late-'60s British blues-rock, with more rock-oriented takes on the kind
of approach used by heroes Freddie King and B.B. King.
The best moments come when they venture just a little outside of the ordinary U.K. blues-rock model,
particularly when Harold McNair adds some jazzy flute; "Down the Highway" sounds
a little close to some of early Jethro Tull.
