Description

An original 1st press of TTPD on the UK Decca label from 1969. Matrix 2A/3A . Stampers 1U/1U - placing this copy within the 1st few thousand copies from this 1st mother [great provenance!]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original hexagonal cover with internal flipbacks exposed [per 1st issue]. Also included is the original red and white hexagonal inner sleeve. So 100% genuine and 100% complete. We will ship with the LP housed in a 1969 red and white inner sleeve for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In superb condition and has only seen the very lightest use. Just look at those label shots - truly remarkable. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are really nice and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. I cannot quite recall hearing a cleaner and more precise playing example of this classic hits LP. Remember - these hits LPs would usually have been played to death. But this example seems to have defied the years and time-travelled in mind-blowing condition. These mono original copies are quite frankly THE best way to take in these classic Stones tracks. Beautiful wide bodied sound which is highly addictive - and I expect those early stampers are certainly helping here. It's a clean player right from the outset. All I could detect was a few isolated crackles in 2,000 Light Years. But this very fussy track plays way way better than you typically find. Whether it be the full-on numbers or the lighter key moments - this example just totally aces it. "Rainbow" - anyone? This track is notoriously fussy, but here it just clean knocks the ball outta the park! I've never heard it better... "Sitting On The Fence" - perfectly quiet...clean as a whistle. A blindingly good player and there's little to find fault with. Crank it right up to max - and it will take you straight back to the sixties.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) A remarkable looking cover. This hexagonal shaped version is truly very very difficult to find in this sort of condition. And this example is within the best couple of examples I've ever witnessed. Front and back are borderline perfect. Usually this cover will exhibit laminate bubbling, scuffing of the edges, light fade - or all of the above. But this example is truly a one-off and can only have survived like this having been archived for a large part of its lifetime. Lovely shiny finish to the front and rear - without light fade or bubbling. The image quality is stunning - and the only minor detractor is a touch of lightest ageing right in the top 1c.m on the front [barely worth mentioning]. There's no sign of the usual edge curl or wear - it truly is a remarkable sight. The interior is immaculate too without issues. And if that weren't good enough - take a look at the spine. On this particular version it is close on impossible to find 100% intact. No fading. No wear. No splitting at the ends. It must have been archived to have survived like this. Overall the cover retains perfect rigidity..sweet!
Inner (Ex) Superb. It looks like it was printed yesterday! No splits. Just lightest circular fade patch in the centre.
