RENAISSANCE

island ILPS 9114 (UK) 1969

produced by PAUL SAMWELL-SMITH

engineer: Andrew Johns

island records ltd

basing st london w11

printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford

THIS ALBUM IS HARD TO FIND WITH A NEAR MINT RECORD LIKE THIS

THE COVER IS EXCELLENT

original white 'i' 1969 UK pink label Island 1st pressing in top near mint condition

magnificent front cover artwork, which I believe to be by French artist Claude Génisson (b 1927)

with gloriously vibrant colour, and from his original work entitled The Downfall Of Icarus

THIS IS THE VERY FIRST ORIGINAL PRESSING

very thick, heavy 'deep groove' disc

beautiful matt paper labels

white 'i' pink island design (the first, of course, for this release)

with superb rich deep colour

machine-stamped matrix side one

I L P S    9 1 1 4    A  //  1

machine-stamped matrix side two

I L P S    9 1 1 4    B  ?  1

(amended by the cutting engineer)

from    I L P S    9 1 1 1    with a hand-inscribed X over the last digit

that number belonging, of course, to King Crimson In The Court Of The Crimson King

stampers side one

1    1    1    1

stampers side two

1    1    1    1

other cutting engineer inscriptions (both sides)

RL    SS

SUPERB ORIGINAL EXAMPLE

the record is near mint

just a couple of the most minimal traces from the correct original plain white poly-lined inner sleeve

lovely deep pink matt paper labels are virtually as new with almost no signs of spindle wear

they really are immaculate - bright, sharp, crisp, clear and clean

the thick, heavy E.J. Day unlaminated gatefold cover is near excellent

and possibly now as close as you will get to mint for this notoriously prone to wear sleeve

the spine has clear, bright titles

interior layout pretty close to as new

top seams excellent, lower seams have light shelf wear

opening edges super sharp, corners lightly bumped

there is a tiny 1cm (one centimetre) scuff to the top left rear corner

and a couple of miniscule scuffs over on the rear right

the cover has no splits, writing, stickers, stamps, stains or significant creases

it is still very crisp, clean and rigid

superb vibrant colour to Génisson's evocative cover painting

original and correct plain (no cautionary text) white poly-lined paper inner sleeve

with U.K. Patent No. 1,072,844 Foreign Patents Pending notation in pale blue is excellent

clean and creamy white
