Description

Red Garland mixed together the usual influences of his generation (Nat Cole, Bud Powell, and Ahmad Jamal) into his own distinctive approach; Garland's block chords themselves became influential on the players of the 1960s. He started out playing clarinet and alto, switching to piano when he was 18. During 1946-1955, he worked steadily in New York and Philadelphia, backing such major players as Charlie Parker, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, and Roy Eldridge, but still remaining fairly obscure. That changed when he became a member of the classic Miles Davis Quintet (1955-1958), heading a rhythm section that also included Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones. After leaving Miles, Garland had his own popular trio and recorded very frequently for Prestige, Jazzland, and Moodsville during 1956-1962 (the majority of which are available in the Original Jazz Classics series). The pianist eventually returned to Texas and was in semi-retirement, but came back gradually in the 1970s, recording for MPS (1971) and Galaxy (1977-1979) before retiring again.

I Use this template for the sale of all my LP's that range in Mint Factory sealed condition to "AC" Acceptable condition. Most are used items in used condition that came from a magnificent collection that belonged to my father. A few i have added to the collection myself. This collection is well over one thousand LP's and i have not played them all.

Please view all pics as they do give a good reflection of condition. Pics will also show extras like original and unique sleeves, and labels. Please note the age of the item as most of these LP's are original year released or close to it.

Grades i include in the listing title COVER/VINYL, along with other info such as if LP is true mint in sealed shrink. Grading is personal perception from a visual standpoint, so please note even a Cover or vinyl grade of VG in my standings are subject to show even a little ware, however i grade with best efforts based on "The Goldmine Records" grading scale. I offer combined shipping that begins at $1 per extra LP for US buyers and reflected shipping based on weight for International buyers.

Please ask questions for any concerns that pictures dont show, and i will gladly give a extensive personal review so that you are comfortable with your item of interest. I make no claim of being an expert in grading items but to date i have handled many albums and grade by scale based on Goldmine grading standards. I will gladly send additional photos and/or search additional info before your purchase.

All Tracks Are Listed in Pictures.
