Status Quo

'Quo Live'

Vertigo, UK, 1976

By 1975 Status Quo could hardly have been more popular. Their’s was a single-minded vision peaking, rather appropriately, with the recording of this victorious double live album. The band selected the Apollo Theatre Glasgow as the ideal venue to capture for posterity their sound. Engaging in a hard rock orgy, they set about deconstructing the blues with crowbars and jackhammers, leaving a small amount of room for a few subtle tempo changes and the occasional chord variation. ‘In My Chair’, with its laconic lyric and cleverly inverted guitar riff, is one example, whilst ‘Juniors Wailing’ (originally written and recorded by Steamhammer) recalls the British blues boom, with an added turbo-charged power pack. The muscle of tracks like ‘Big Fat Mama’ and ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ is completely invasive.
Central to Quo’s spirit is the seventeen-minute long ‘Forty Five Hundred Times’, a relentless guitar showcase, allowing Rossi, in particular, to stretch out and provide a brace of seemingly inexhaustible solos. The track bobs and weaves through several sections and it is not hard to visualise the perpetrators, locked in mortal combat with their instruments, heads down, baseball boots flapping and lank hair entwined around the mic stands. Of similar impact is the encore favourite ‘Roadhouse Blues’. Amazingly, the crowd contributes as much to the success of this particular track as the band. This is an album where both band and audience take no prisoners.

Pressing: Vertigo, UK, 1976

Vinyl: Superb condition - I would say played just a handful of times at most. Possibly a few spindle marks on the labels (hard to see) and virtually no other signs of use. All four sides grade as MINT-!

Cover: No signs of use. Issued in a beautifully illustrated  gatefold cover. Sharp corners, no dings, no bends, no ring wear, no split seams and no creases. Spine is perfect - straight, stiff and square. Beautiful and impossible to find like this 41 years after release. Grades as MINT!

Inserts: Photo inner sleeves
