Jazz 1U/1U (1st pressing with Poster)

This very first pressing has audio of an immaculate standard and rarely have I heard better, it is stunning.  It comes complete with an excellent gatefold and a super clean poster.

One of the earlier first pressings this only has two stampers on each side, they are commonly found with three.

 Visual grading

  Visually it doesn't get much better than this!  This looks 'as new' it is absolutely immaculate with a 'shop fresh' glossy sheen still on it.  I can only see a couple of barely visible spindle lines on S2 and not one on S1 so this vinyl has hardly been played and the audio confirms that.  There are no scratches and I can't even detect any hairlines.  This really is a stunning looking vinyl and the run out grooves are also spotlessly clean.  What a pristine first press!

Play grading

'Mustapha' plays with stunning clarity from the very first groove and continuing to the last.  This easily grades as Mint- such is the incredible quality on offer here.  This is prevalent throughout S1 with only a little static on the 'Fat Bottomed Girls' intro.  That is the only 'background' on this side, the remainder has a clarity of sound that is second to none.  Honestly this audio is immaculate!  For example even the quieter tracks such as 'Jealousy' impress with Mint- sound once more and there is none of the distortion that you so often find on 'If You Can't Beat Them'.  This may actually be the 'cleanest' version of this track I have ever heard.  'Let Me Entertain You' ends the side with 'high end' sound again, yes a little distortion towards the end but that is always the case on this track where the grooves are pressed closer together in order to 'fit' it onto the side.

'Dead On Time' - wow!  Rarely have I heard such power and depth.  I haven't got enough superlatives for the audio quality here.  When I hear perfection I use a Mint- grading, the minus being there because the album isn't sealed.  This track is Mint- and then some!  This sublime quality is again prevalent on every track on S2, just a minor hint of static for 2/3 seconds on the 'Dreamers Ball' intro and literally at the end.  'Leaving Home Ain't Easy' and 'Don't Stop Me Now' deserve a special mention though as they both play 'as new' which is the case on 99% of this album if I'm honest!  The fade out on the latter has no 'background' at all.  Absolute perfection.  'More Of That Jazz' ends the album in supreme style with no interference.

In summary the audio on this genuine first pressing is of an immaculate standard and is most definitely one of the best 1U/1U pressings I have ever heard.  The clarity is stunning and with barely any 'background' this is right up there with the best.  There are no loud clicks or pops and certainly no crackle.  An absolute pleasure to listen to this will add to any 'high end' collection.

Gatefold Cover

This is in lovely condition overall with only a minor amount of shelf wear.  It has the embossed 'Jazz' logo on the front and the edges are super clean with no rub marks.  The bottom right corner does have a little rubbing as does the top and bottom of the spine.  The spine itself has a couple of 'rubs' and the usual lines running down it from where it has been opened.  The opening edge shows very little sign of being handled it is in great shape.  The front cover is extremely clean with no marking or creasing and as anyone knows this is one of the hardest Queen covers to keep clean.  The back cover is also in fantastic condition with no marking, fading or staining at all and the inside is immaculate.

Picture inner & Poster

A super clean glossy inner it is practically as new with only a tiny amount of rubbing on one edge, a superb example.  The infamous poster is also in incredible condition with no tears, marking or creasing.

Almost as new there is no marking/writing and barely any spindle wear, nothing on S1!
