Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! 1st UK pressing of Otis Spann's "The Bottom Of The Blues" album  on the Stateside labels. This album was purchased from new and originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records! Look! Incredibly rare, Features the earliest possible -1 and -1 Matrix endings and the earliest possible "1" "G"and "1" "G" Mother Stampers! Probaly one of the first 300 off the press! (Only 1st UK press)!   This album is complete with the original 1st issue laminatred front only and flipbacked rear Garrod & Lofthouse cover!! The audio is truly stunning through out! The audio is graded at least excellent plus Very Near Mint in my opinion! (Minor isolated interference noted in the form of isolated pops heard on side one.) No loud constant clicks or pops! So rich and vibrant throughout! Looks and sounds like it has only ever been played a handful of times in my opinion! Just a handfull of spider traces on the labels! This is complete with the original poly lined record sleeve in superb condition rarely seen complete like this!

Otis Spann (March 21, 1924[2] or 1930 – April 24, 1970) was an American blues musician, whom many consider to be the leading postwar Chicago blues pianist.




Sources differ over Spann's early years.






Many sources state that he was born in Jackson, Mississippi, in 1930, but researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc conclude, on the basis of census and other official information, that he was born in 1924, in Belzoni, Mississippi.




Spann's father was, according to some sources, a pianist called Friday Ford. His mother, Josephine Erby, was a guitarist who had worked with Memphis Minnie and Bessie Smith, and his stepfather, Frank Houston Spann, was a preacher and musician. One of five children, Spann began playing the piano at the age of seven, with some instruction from Friday Ford, Frank Spann, and Little Brother Montgomery




By the age of 14, he was playing in bands in the Jackson area.




He moved to Chicago in 1946, where he was mentored by Big Maceo Merriweather. Spann performed as a solo act and with the guitarist Morris Pejoe, working a regular spot at the Tic Toc Lounge.





Spann became known for his distinctive piano style.




He replaced Merriweather as Muddy Waters's piano player in late 1952, and participated in his first recording session with the band on September 24, 1953.







He continued to record as a solo artist and session player with other musicians, including Bo Diddley and Howlin' Wolf, during his tenure with the group. He stayed with Waters until 1968

This would have been the very first off the press!






The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks absolutely superb, Thick heavy,chunky slab of vinyl only found like this on the earliest pressings! Looks absolutely superb, and I can't see or feel any scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs and sleeve removal type only.. ,  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new.  (no) deep needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is superbe cristal clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st pressings! Note! This is the best sounding copy that I have heard,, so vibrant and clear, you will not find a better sounding album!  Note: light Isolated static type pops were heard and background noise in the quieter places or in between tracks worth to mention. ,, Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps truly awesome and very rare for a 1st pressing. The audio is graded at least excellent plus to very Near Mint for the most part in my opinion!

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please remember this is a 49 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 49 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been overplayed and in fact looks barely ever played,  (minimal spider traces only!), the audio quality superbe on all frequencies.
 
The labels
This features the "Stateside" labels. These are superbe Minimal spider traces only on the labels, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware! This vinyl looks barely played in my personal opinion!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original white poly lined sleeve. No splits or tears. Superb for 49 years old like this! Light creasing/staining/browning with age.  The vinyl is now and has always been stored seperately from the sleeve. Note This is the original!

The cover
The original 1st UK issue laminated front, Rear flipback  Garrod & Lofthouse cover  The cover is absolutely superbe!  Super glossy laminate. Rarely seen in decent top condition like this one.  There are (no) edge splits or tears.   The spine is generally lovely and  square all text is readable.   A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!  Super glossy  No nasty rubbing or ring wear worth to mention. No real nasty creases at all, (Note: Light thumb type creases on the front and minor edge creases but nothing too bad in my opinion) Any other imperfections, are not noticed unless looked for in my opinion. The rear is generally lovely and white. If looked at closely I notice some foxing at the rear, but not really noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  Must be at least better than excellent in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 49 years on this cover!
