MARCONI 0278 - LEW DOCKSTADER "EVERYBODY WORKS BUT FATHER" with ORIGINAL SLEEVE!

Marconi (Columbia) 10 inch record 0278 "Everybody Works but Father" by the great Lew Dockstader, impresario and minstrel man extraodinaire. One of only a few titles ever recorded by Dockstader, it was originally released by Columbia in 1905, and reissued on the very short-lived, and relatively scarce (c.1907-1908) "Marconi Velvet Tone" label in 1907. Overall condition is G+ to VG- with light to moderate overall groove wear typical of so many Marconi discs. Included is the original Marconi sleeve (harder to find, in some cases, than the records themselves), which is in very good condition with its glassine window perfectly intact. Carefully cleaned and conservatively graded.Lew Dockstader (born George Alfred Clapp, August 7, 1856, Hartford, Connecticut - died October 26, 1924, New York City) was a United States singer, comedian, and Vaudeville star, best known as a blackface minstrel show performer in the late 19th century and early years of the 20th century. Dockstader performed both as a solo act and leading a popular Minstrel troupe. Various popular entertainers of the era performed with Dockstader's Minstrels, including Will Oakland, and the most famous being young Al Jolson, c. 1906-1909. Dockstader appeared on film in a number of comedy shorts, and in the title role in the 1914 feature silent film "Dan".
