RARE original 1970 UK first pressing in gatefold cover -- one that does not turn up too often...
This album is much more than a curiosity, it is a must hear for classical-loving progheads. 'Continuum' are an Unidentified Flying Group, that is all too forgotten. This extremely eclectic debut is only partly in the rock realm, but its folk, classical, pre-classical, blues, prog and avant-garde influences make it one of the hardest album to classify.
A unique sound from a time when progressive rock music was yet to be defined. It features a rich blend of classical themes, folksy blues, and something that can be refered to as pre-chamber prog. It's a bit unfocused sometimes, but that's a part of the charm with these early prog albums. largely based around dual guitars and string bass. The A-side is largely interpretations of classical/baroque pieces, and has complex rhythms and, strangely, blues influences— note leader Yoel Schwarcz’s use of harp, lending a decidedly offbeat feel to this music. The B-side is dedicated to the “Legend of Childe Harold” suite, which includes a string quartet and “electronic” treatments (largely stuff like phase-shifting on the strings). An album for that something in flavors quite different, it’s so unlike anything else in early European progressive rock creativity.
