MARTIN CARTHY - LANDFALL Philips Records 6308049 - 1971 Produced by Terry Brown Vinyl Ex / Cover Ex
Recorded the year he left Steeleye Span this is Martin Carthy at his most stripped back, accompanied only by himself on guitar, no overdubs and on " The cruel Mother" not even guitar just unaccompanied voice. Honest and heartfelt versions of mostly traditional songs plus a few contemporary compositions by David Ackles ( His Name Is Andrew), Dave Goulder ( January Man) and John Kirkpatrick ( Dust to Dust ). The Folk Legend at his best. This is the rare original 1971 pressing on the Philips label not the 1977 Topic re-release which has a different cover. Some slight surface noise between tracks and a few quiet clicks but considering this record is 45 years old it is in remarkably good condition and using RCPG I have graded as it as Excellent.
