Eyes of the Heart is a jazz album by American pianist Keith Jarrett released in 1979
by the ECM record label. The personnel on the album is the "American Quartet"
made up of Jarrett, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Paul Motian. It was recorded
at the Theater am Kornmarkt, Bregenz in Austria in 1976.
This live recording features pianist Keith Jarrett (also playing a bit of soprano),
tenor saxophonist Dewey Redman, bassist Charlie Haden and drummer Paul Motian
performing the 33-minute title cut and an 18-minute piece simply called "Encore."
Every recording by this particular group (arguably Jarrett's best working ensemble)
is well worth hearing, for they had their own sound and the ability to play both
"inside" and "outside" simultaneously, and they were continually full of surprises.
Originally released as a two-LP set with the fourth side completely blank, the
intriguing music has since been reissued as a single CD.

General standards For Record Grading
Mint (M) - Still shrink wrapped, unplayed, new copy of a record.
no visual defects!
Near Mint (NM) - a nearly perfect record that has usually only
been played 1-3 times, in "like new" condition.
Very Good + / Excellent (VG+) -
A VG+ / Excellent record will show minor signs that it was played but
otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.
Record surface may show light scuffs or very light scratches that
don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not
affect the sound are "OK".
The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should
be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen
by repeated play. Picture sleeves will have some slight wear,
lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split.
An LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a
cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print
and sold at a discount. In general, if not for a couple things wrong with
it, this would be Near Mint.
All but the most mint-crazy collectors
will find a Very Good Plus record highly acceptable.
Very Good (VG) - record has a little more wear than VG+ with some
slight surface noise, light pops, scuffs or light scratches. Generally
still a great playing copy, no skips. Jacket may have more shelf wear,
a little writing, sticker residue, punch out/cut out holes or corners.
Very Good - (VG-) - record has noticeable groove wear, minor discoloration,
surface noise, scratches, and/or scuffs but still a decent playing copy,
no skips. jacket has heavier wear and may have a small split seam.
Good + and Good (G+ and G) - record still plays without skipping
but has considerable amounts of groove wear, discoloration, surface noise, scuffs,
and/or scratches. Sleeve has alot of wear and some defects such
as split seams, heavy creasing, writing, marks, sticker residue, etc...
Poor (P), Fair (F)
The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without
skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on
all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP cover
barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves are fully seam split,
crinkled, and written upon.
