Description
Original 1974 UK pink label pre-release test pressing in Trident studio custom sleeve of what would be Judas Priest’s debut album (Trident is where the album was mixed as well as partly recorded). The plain white inner sleeve (see scan) has a hand-written note “Extra copy for artist” as well as a message stating “David – please let me know if this test meets with your approval? Thanks Ed” (at least, I think it says Ed – anyway, the initials or name definitely start with an E!)
I don’t know if this has different mixes or versions to the finished product (given that Trident’s engineer asked the band for approval, and they famously weren’t happy with the mix, it seems likely that there were at least minor changes made before it came out). Side One matrix number is XZAL-13291.P-1W, Side Two matrix number is XZAL-13292.P-1W.
Condition: the Trident sleeve (see scan) is in VG condition with very minor creasing and a 2” split across the middle of the bottom spine, disc is also in VG shape with surface marks and some light background noise at times, but nothing too intrusive. Probably a unique item, and a little slice of heavy metal history!
