JOY DIVISION: Unique 1979 & 80’s “John Peel” Signed Three Times Letters, With Reference to Joy Division. And a “John Peel Sessions” LP Signed by Bernard, Hooky and Stephen.

Description:


First the “John Peel Sessions” LP signed next to their photograph individually by Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris is actually very rare and fits perfectly with these unique John Peel letters.


The picture-proof signing of this LP also shows two other LP’s that are part of this collection, and are listed separately, “Unknown Pleasures” and “CLOSER”. All are in very good or excellent condition.


These unique 1979 “John Peel” signed three times letters, with one reference to Joy Division can be described as somewhat historic Joy Division items, as they highlight a list of related things, most importantly how evidently clear and relevant it was to record Joy Division in the BBC studios, and then on vinyl.


These three signed letters, two are on BBC Radio 1 stamped paper from John Peel are responses to a sympathetic young man who sent him audio tapes of his band, hoping that they would be liked and played on John Peel’s radio show.


The tapes were sent with the “green paper letter” dated 16th November 1979, and then John Peel responded on the back of the “green paper letter” then returned it.


So these three letters all relate to the same event, and ending with the final letter sometime in the early 80’s.


However, keep in mind that John Peel had thousands of tapes from all over the world sent to him, and they were stacked in his office, studio and home. There are many photos that show this, and accounts, as he also explains in the letter. So for John Peel to write all these letters to one person was probably a one-off, or rare to say the least and with this sequence of events he captured in print his thoughts and experience with Joy Division, their audience, and him being in the middle.


Also, notice that the letter with the Joy Division reference, certainly reflected personal thought and experience, as it had been typed by hand, with two “XXXX” errors deleted words, and most importantly on John Peel’s personal BBC Radio 1 letterhead paper.


Additionally, to make these letters even more Joy Division related, and by some strange and funny unexplainable coincidence, the BBC envelope of the first letter sent by John Peel is Post-Office-Stamped LONDON W.1. (10th December 1979), this being the very same day that the second “Joy Division/John Peel Session” was Transmitted/Aired on the BBC Radio for the first time.


These are a unique collection of “Joy Division/John Peel Sessions” items, and are individually kept in easy to remove acid-free holders.
