a rare 12-Inch 78rpm 2-Record Set by folk singer
Joe Glazer also known for his many Folkways Records
releases & the songs here are all fantastic topical Union
folk songs in the style of Woody Guthrie and Josh White
or Leadbelly done here for the CIO Department of Education
& Research which is now part of the AFL=CIO but then
stood for Congress of Industrial Organizations

this set is a very rare issue done in much the
fashion of Library of Congress and Folkways releases
and contains important historical recordings & the
cover contains lyrics & credits for the songs

~ condition ~


these records are in Excellent - Condition* & have
been fully play tested and sound great with no skips or
repeats & have just typical light 78rpm surface noise
except* that side 2 of record 1 has a pressing flaw where
part of the record is discolored and causes slightly more
surface noise when the needle passes through that part
of the record but otherwise the shellac is shiny & clean with
just light wear that in no way interferes with the sound and
has bright clean labels with no writing or markings except
that one side has some fading/discoloration in places


the cover is in Very Good Condition with bold
bright printing but it does have some splitting to the
seams in addition to edge & corner wear plus some tears
in places as well as having what appears to be water stains
inside & on the back. the cover is made of lightweight paper
which is easily damaged but amazingly this cover still is
in fairly good shape for being as old & delicate as it is

Joe Glazer was a troubadour of the U.S. labor movement
who performed, composed and collected the songs of work
and protest for 60 years performing at countless union rallies
and conventions, at civil rights marches, at campaign rallies for
Democratic Party candidates at all levels & at hundreds of civic
events in the Washington area. His songs were rousing anthems
of the working man sung with his booming baritone voice a
thumping guitar & a broad infectious smile. Three songs have
became labor classics: "Automation," "The Mill Was Made of
Marble" and "Too Old to Work" & he recorded 30 + albums and
also became a leading collector, publisher & historian of labor
songs helping establish the Labor Heritage Foundation in
Washington & his recordings, along with those of Pete Seeger
Woody Guthrie & the Almanac Singers are now included in the
Smithsonian Institution Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage
including the union version of "We Shall Overcome" which was
derived from Charles Tindley's 1900 hymn "I'll Overcome Some
Day" which by the 1960s became the anthem of the U.S. civil
rights movement & as liberal Democrat, Glazer ultimately
branched out into political satire with a collection of songs
at the expense of Republicans, from Joseph McCarthy to
President Ronald Reagan with his "Jellybean Blues"
