The original version was issued back in the mid-70s as a double LP set, put together by band manager, fanatical collector and rock brain Glenn A. Baker. It was the first album of its kind in Australia, breaking new ground in taking a comprehensive, serious look back at the music of that era, as represented by releases from the leading label of the time, and full credit is due to Glenn for his pioneering efforts in getting it all together. As the track listing indicates, it's a very extensive overview of the enormous range of Festival's pop-rock output from 1964 to around 1972, covering both the big hits and long-forgotten releases by lesser known acts, and it can scarcely be bettered. ©

“Includes such awesome cuts as: LLOYD’S WORLD “Brass Bird” with its trippy phased fuzztone solo, the JAMES TAYLOR MOVE’s psych classic “Magic Eyes”, MELISSA’s “Mississippi Mama”, the ‘A’ side of SHERBET’s first single, “Crimson Ships” (it’s a damn good pop-psych track; recorded in 1969), the CLIK’s “Mary, Mary”, the VELVET UNDERGROUND’s tough progressive version of the Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody To Love”, the DAVE MILLER SET’s legendary “Mr. Guy Fawkes”, the Twilights (in disguise as Pastoral Symphony) with their psych classic “Love Machine”, PHIL JONES AND THE UNKNOWN BLUES’ “If I Had A Ticket”, KING FOX “Unforgotten Dreams” (the awesome fuzz guitar and flute solo have rarely been matched!!), Bon Scott’s VALENTINES great version of the Easybeats’ “Peculiar Hole In The Sky”, RUNNING JUMPING STANDING STILL (featuring ex-/later members of the Missing Links, Masters Apprentices, the Vacant Lot, the Pink Finks) – their “Diddy Wah Diddy” was a killer garage version, Lobby Loyde’s WILD CHERRIES’ “Krome Plated Yabby”, the BAY CITY UNION (featuring pre-Chain Phil Manning & Matt Taylor, and pre-Masters Apprentices Glenn Wheatley) “Mo’reen”, the ‘B’ side of the 1969 first single by CHAIN (“Mr.Time”) from when the band contained ex-/later members of the Cleves, Chants R’n’B, Blackfeather, Aztecs,…one of the best tracks is “Black Sally” by MECCA, which featured guitar wiz Dennis Wilson who also fired up Kahvas Jute, Chariot, Kevin Bible and the Book, and the Barrington Davis Power Pact with his incendiary guitar playing…this is the original of the cut covered so incredibly by NZ’s the Human Instinct a year later on “Stoned Guitar”…  (This fantastic description pinched from a previous listing – apologies, can be removed if requested.)
