1. About Us:

We emphasize early pressing, rare, sealed, vintage, and weird records -- colored vinyl, die-cut vinyl, first pressings, mono versions of common stereo releases, promotional pressings, and the like.

2. Our Record Grading / Cover Grading Practices:

Please read the following statement carefully as it describes our experience grading records that we post for sale.  It is admittedly a somewhat lengthy explanation but we do strive for accuracy in describing the items we post for sale.

Our grading system is primarily a VISUAL one -- while we strive to listen to as many records as possible, and in such cases, do provide a description of the record's sonic characteristics, it is not possible to listen to all the records we post for sale.

We provide two visual grades for records that have an outer cover jacket -- one grade for the record within the cover jacket, and one grade for the cover itself. We do occasionally sell records that do not have an outer cover, and in these cases provide only the one grade. As we do sometimes sell the record only, our sequence of grades is: record first, cover second.

We also describe the inner sleeve that may accompany the record -- bear in mind that many early LPs were sold WITHOUT an inner sleeve, only the record within the outer generally cardboard cover jacket.  As we ship records with the LP outside of the original cover jacket to prevent cover jacket seam splits from occurring during shipment, we do encase even LPs that did not originally come with an inner sleeve within a protective paper inner sleeve.  Please bear in mind that such a provided-for-shipment inner sleeve MAY NOT fit inside the original cover jacket.  This applies mostly to late 1940s through 1950s LPs. 

Typically our description of the inner sleeve will be: 

"original inner sleeve" (if the sleeve that came with the LP is LIKELY the original, ascertained by printing that matches the LP record label or the LP itself);

"seemingly original";

"generic", which is for a blank unprinted-upon inner sleeve made from any number of possible LP record-containing materials. 

For these generic inner sleeves, we describe what type of sleeve there is (paper, plastic, plastic-lined paper, glassine);

or, "audiophile" (Discwasher VRP, for example) for the specialized inner sleeves introduced in the 1970s to protect LPs.

Bear in mind that just because a certain type of sleeve (material-wise) is present, that sleeve may not be the ORIGINAL inner sleeve.  If the seemingly original LP sleeve is in less than intact condition, we do note this -- some people want as original an inner sleeve as possible with a record, regardless of condition.

Record Grading Tiers:

We base our grading of records LOOSELY on the Goldmine standards, but find adhering to such wording strictly to be hopelessly draconian: there are always exceptions and record quality conditions that seem to fall in between the various grades.

We find the all too common addition of even one "plus" or "minus" notation to common record-grading tiers to be confusing and vague, so we don't use them -- let alone TWO "plus" or "minus" notations.

Our grading "tiers" are as follows, and assigned in a manner that we believe is conservative -- we tend to assign the next lower grade rather than reaching for the next higher grade.

Still Sealed: a record that is still in the ORIGINAL shrinkwrap or plastic enclosure, as the case may be.

As noted above, there are always exceptions, even to this seemingly clear-cut tier:  we have often found LPs that appear to be NOT sealed, i.e, the cover jacket does not have any shrinkwrap on it or is still in shrinkwrap but the opening to pull open the record has been slit open -- YET, the LP record within the cover IS "still sealed", encased in (typically) an unopened plastic inner sleeve. 

We consider these records to be "still sealed" even though the cover jacket is not.  In our sale postings, we use the term , "record ONLY still sealed" or "partially sealed" when this is the case -- if we do not state  "record ONLY still sealed" when the outer cover jacket is still sealed, and obviouly the record within is also.

We also use the term "partially sealed" to describe LPs where the outer shrinkwrap is still on the LP, but the record pull-out slit has been partially opened, AND in cases of double LP or triple LP albums where one or more of the records within the album is still sealed.

Mint: we do not use this term for RECORDS -- our experience has been that even records that visually appear immaculate may, upon playing, produce the sonic non-musical noises sometimes described as a "pop" or "clicks" or "crackle" (no "snap", to disappoint you cereal fans).  Nothing like an audible non-musical sound emanating from a seemingly immaculate record to convince one that "Mint" is an inaccurate term to describe what appears to be a perfect record!  We DO use this term, however, to describe the cover jacket if the cover jacket looks brand new.

Near Mint: this is the term we use to describe a record that visually appears immaculate -- bear in mind, again, that a record that may visually appear immaculate may produce the above-mentioned non-musical noise when played.  When used to describe the cover jacket, this is the term for a nearly flawless cover -- we do note whatever flaws we may perceive.

Excellent -- visually, the record has only a few minor flaws, but NO scratches visible.

Very Good --  visually, the record has generally only one light scratch, or some minor scuffs.

Good -- visually, the record has a few light scratches or scuffs.

Rough -- MANY "rough"-looking records actually sonically play flawlessly! -- visually, these records look like they have been played a lot, with many scratches, some that look deep.

ALL of these visual record grades refer to the quality of the vinyl grooves, NOT to the quality of the spindle hole nor the quality of any warping or other damage (edge chipping, for example) that may be present.  Should any of these qualities be present, we strive to describe them.

Cover Grading Tiers:

Still Sealed: a shrinkwrap-covered record that has not been opened enough to enable the record within to be pulled out.  When there is a slit in the record-extracting side of the cover, but enough to prevent the extraction of the record, we call this "partially sealed".  Similarly, in cases of a multiple record album that may have one or more of the records extractable but at least one of the records within still sealed, we call this record album "partially sealed".

Mint: a cover that looks brand new, but either has shrinkwrap that has been slit open on the record-extraction side so the record is removable, or that has partial shrinkwrap or no shrinkwrap and looks brand new.  Shrinkwrapped albums with bent corners or bowing due to the shrinkwrap having shrunk over time are not mint.

Near Mint: close to mint but not visually flawless.

Excellent: superb structural condition with only a few minor corner dents or spine wear, no visible ringwear on either the front or the back of the jacket, and no writing nor marking.

Very Good:  irreproachable structural condition, but may have some writing or marking (generally a prior owner's name), may have a little more extensive corner or spine wear, may have some slight ringwear, may have promotional stickers or old price stickers, but no seam splits nor significant stains.

Good: a cover with solid structural condition, but many aesthetic and wear issues, such as bent or damaged corners, spine wear, small seam splits no larger than a few inches, heavier ringwear, writing or drawing on the cover, or abundant stains.

Rough: a cover that does cover the record, but is in less than solid structural condition, due to large seam splits, pronounced ringwear, scuffing, or tearing, yet has value as the record's original cover, and / or has extensive writing, marking, or stains.

NA: Not Applicable cover grade is for missing covers or a record that was originally released in a clear plastic sheath-type sleeve.

Sonic Quality Grading Tiers:

Unknown: this applies to records that are still sealed within either their original inner sleeve in an opened cover jacket or within a cover jacket whose exterior is also still sealed.

Mint: no audible "pops", "clicks", or "crackles" during playback -- a flawless musical listening experience.

Excellent: only minor -- as in one or two, "pops", "clicks", or "crackles" during playback on a given side -- a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience.

Very Good -- a few more audible sonic interruptions to the audio content, but not enough to deter from the pleasure of the listening experience.

Good -- quite a few sonic glitches that intrude upon the listening experience, but not enough to make one seek another copy of the audio content: acceptable for listening purposes.

Rough -- near constant extraneous noise from groove wear or other playing surface imperfections, "pops", "clicks", or "crackles" during playback -- a challenging listening experience that, should one be enamored of the content, may make one seek to find a cleaner audio copy.

4. Track Listings:

We strive to list the track(s) on each side of the record(s), or on the one side only of the record.

Many times when seeking a specific song or composition we have been frustrated to NOT see  a track listing for a particular record that MAY or may not contain the song or composition we seek, so we strive to avoid this frustration for our potential buyers.

Below the track listing we will provide a concise opinion of the musical or spoken word contents IF we have listened to the music.  We often do not have the time nor interest to listen to particular records, or the record may be still sealed which precludes listening to it without disturbing the record's preserved state.

5. Shipping:

Shipping is usually within 24 hours of receiving payment (excluding weekends), and within 3 business days under normal circumstances. 

Should we be unable to ship for a period beyond this time frame, we will post a notice atop our sale listings.

?Records are shipped outside of any cover jacket they may have, in their original inner sleeve, except in the case of records that did not have an original inner sleeve.

These records are shipped inside a generic plain paper sleeve.

Records that are still sealed within a still sealed cover are shipped intact.

All records are shipped inside cardboard with extra cardboard stiffeners / protectors within the outer package.

For the purposes of shipping cost calculation, double LP albums are considered two LP records, and triple LP albums are considered three LP records.

Presently we ship from the U.S.A. and use USPS media mail for U.S.A shipments, unless buyer requests and pays for expedited service.

We accurately describe the record's condition, visually, and provide comments on the record's sonic quality when we have the opportunity to listen to the record, and describe any cover and inner sleeve comprehensively.

We photograph the records we offer for sale with attention to detail so you can see  how the item(s) look when packaged for your delivery.

We package our items for shipment very well, as we would want to receive them, with attention and care to the packaging.
