Goody Two Shoes
" Come Together "
Rarely seen on eBay
Paragon (Allied) ALS-237, 1969 Original Issue 1st Pressing Canada Stereo
(Run-off matrix #'s: hand-etched als-237A and als-237B)
Put down at Art Snyder's famed Sound Canada Recording Center in Toronto in 1969, Goody Two Shoes was the sole recording from this short-lived and one-off collaboration by the two former vocalists of Toronto's cult folk-psych band A Passing Fancy (Jay Telfer and Fergus Hambleton). Perhaps not quite as coveted today as some of the other period holy grails, this obscure recording is as nevertheless as difficult to find as some of it's contemporaires which were also released on the Paragon/Allied label like Reign Ghost, Christmas and Spring Fever.
Not unlike the vibes on A Passing Fancy's self-titled rarity from the previous year, musically, Goody Two Shoes ranges from rural acid rock with distorted lead guitar, a cool cover of the Beatles "Come Together", the original Jay Telfer-penned version of "Ten Pound Note" (which was a regional hit when covered by Toronto group "Steel River" a few months later) , a melancholic downer cover version of "One" (popularized by Three Dog Night) and some dreamy electric folk rock gems. Jay Telfer even brought along his original Passing Fancy recording "I'm Losing Tonight", giving it a somewhat harder eclectic edge here.
