Tons Of Sobs ( Island ILPS 9089) 1969

 

Here's a lovely original UK copy of Free’s debut, as first issued in March 1969. This is an absolute first pressing, on Island’s ‘ball logo’ label. The matrix numbers are ILPS 9089 A2 and ILPS 9089 B2 (the ‘B1’ matrix belonged to test pressings only, which supposedly contained ‘Visions Of Hell’, replaced at the last moment by ‘The Hunter’).

 

SLEEVE

The fragile, unlaminated gatefold sleeve is in lovely EX condition, with light shelfwear, no ringwear, no writing, no splits and a legible spine. The inside contains the first printing ‘Ernest J. Day & Co.’ credit. This is a very hard sleeve to find in decent condition.

 

VINYL

Graded under direct light, the glossy disc is in solid VG+ shape, with a few minor marks, and sounds great. The textured labels are in clean condition. Comes complete with original inner sleeve. You would do well to find a better copy.
