FIELDS – Same ORIG CBS LP /CBS 69009 (UK, Stereo, 1971)
Happy to present this classic overlooked UK progressive LP in FANTASTIC CONDITION THROUGHOUT AND COMPLETE WITH THE RARE, OFTEN MISSING POSTER!
The unlaminated gatefold sleeve has the record entering from the centre of the gate, as issued (probably manufactured by Shorewood, although there is no credit) and is in a most pleasing all round EX (Excellent) condition. Bar a few tiny ‘spine out’ creases and a light crescent shaped crease to the front right bottom, it is lovely, flat, smooth and uncreased. There is minimal rubbing to the top and bottom edges, corners are still mainly sharp with only minimal softening and the inside gate, including the single thickness front panel is also excellent with only a little rubbing to the right top. That means the rear is pretty much without blemish (maybe the slightest of ring impression when held up to the light), there is NO writing, stickers, residue, splits, tears or scratches. Spine is strong without splits, showing a little lean which has angled slightly away from 90 degrees. All in all a very strong and clean example of this notoriously fragile sleeve that will satisfy most discerning collectors.
The original deep orange CBS label design still had 2 or 3 years life before being changed in the UK to the familiar ‘sunburst’ mid 70’s design. These examples are superb with only one or two spindle trails per side, NO writing, foxing spots, dirt, stickers or residue.
The original 6-panel folded poster is, again, in great shape with no signs of ever having been pinned or tacked. There are NO splits, no scribble and bar some slight age toning to the white rear is pretty much as issued.
The sharp medium weight disc is presented in its original CBS advertising inner and is in fabulous EX+ (Excellent Plus) condition. There are NO scratches, hairlines or notable scuffs and the only cosmetics away from a true mint disc are just some very fine, isolated ‘withdrawal’ lines (hardly noticeable and most wouldn’t bother to mention) but MY GRADE IS TRUE and I try to outline ALL aspects away from mint. There are NO craters, dust pockets, bubbles or handling marks. The record has been carefully listened to and plays superbly with only a couple of soft ticks noted between the 2 sides. There is a little underlying static predominantly to Side 2, but that means NO clicks, loud pops, hiss, distortion or loss of clarity. A lovingly preserved disc that plays pretty much as it looks – a true EX.
A splendid 39 year old example of the sole LP from this short-lived combo who featured ex King Crimson, Rare Bird and Gordon Haskell Band members. No reserve!
