Label Conditions: Both in age-defying conditions: very clean, fresh and attractive with only very light, equally few, fine and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. This is a stunning example with cover to match.

Brief Info: On offer is a truly stunning mid-1960s original Elvis Album – and for me one of his very best ever. Most will be more than familiar with the classic songs included, and all heard here to near perfection on the beautiful very early UK Decca-pressed album – one that appears hardly played and including a stunning practically Mint cover. This album was reissued in 19969 on the orange RCA label and has a huge catalogue value, probably because there were not many made. But they are what they are – a later repress – this one if the 1965 original and looks and sound fantastic – you can never beat any original in this type of condition, it being the real-deal as far as I am concerned. For all fans of ‘The King’, a better first pressing is unlikely to be seen or offered soon.

Cover Grade and Format: NEAR MINT: a single format with frong Clarifoil laminate, this covers all the closed edges and ends on the back via the spine. The back panel is matt and smooth. Printed and made in England by James Upton ltd, includes the ‘115’ date-coded inner sleeve.

Lamination & Front: At 50-years-old, this is in little short of remarkable condition. This also one of the most elusive 1960s Elvis originals. The laminate is stunning with immaculate shine, freshness and clarity with no dulling at all, even viewed under light. No lifting, peeling, scuffs or marks. One tiny corner edge crease, anything else is minuscule including record rim impression. The graphic and white background are both incredible and look as new. Any blemishes to the right opening edge are equally minute. This is a cover for the Elvis connoisseur and could prove a near ultimate upgrade.

Cover Back: The unprotected matt back is of the same immense standard with any handling traces or grubbiness ultra light and faint. The laminate end on the edge so clean you can hardly even see it. Fifty years old? – well try telling this cover that fact.

Top Edge: Unworn, clean, smooth and unscuffed, any bowing very little, gentle and faint. Clarifoil covers rarely escape this lightly.

Bottom Edge: Practically the same again.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly very sharp with very little wear. Any thickening or burring minimal and very light as seen viewed end-on, hardly anything. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.

Spine and Text: Solid, quite straight with any compression (near the top), being light. The ends are tapered in manufacture, this more noticeable on the bottom one. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate, that remains clear, untoned or scuffed.

Corners: All corners are of the same superb quality – crisp, neat and sharp with no dinks or knocks. Excellent or better shape is retained with the odd tiny rub trace on the more vulnerable bottom right (but look hard).

Cover Summary: A truly beautiful all-round example of this classic mid-1960s cover, one that will prove immensely difficult just to match, let alone find much better. This incredible piece Elvis history should please practically all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: NEAR EXCELLENT: this one date coded 115 (November 1965). A Decca-style polylined inner with two immaculate window circles and very clear, unfogged lining. A little aged with the usual seam adhesive darkening but not a lot else. A little corner creasing, this often deliberate by more careful owners to stop the record sliding out. All edges unsplit with just one nick on the side, no repairs, this is British patented with ‘Foreign Patents Pending’ text.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): arguably better, how many popular artist, 50-year-old mono record will ever be found a great deal better will be very few indeed. I rarely offer Presley albums, and if I do, they have to be of the highest quality – this goes even beyond the call-of-duty. A super visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and very solidly pressed on top quality Decca pure vinyl. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface marks very few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright angled light – hardly any of any real note – of the couple or three slightly wider than hairline ones, one sound whatsoever. There are NO penetrating stylus scratches ont his age-defying mono record. Visually a superb example that should please most-all collectors. Like the cover, this could prove a massive upgrade again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This Elvis classic album plays even above it’s high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is an exceptional clean pressing with no tracking issues*. Few copies will match or outperform this very early pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Few available Elvis mono originals will be seen quite like this, most heavily played and often rendered unplayable these days. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record that includes some of his greatest ever songs. One for fans to treasure, and if only one Elvis album is wanted for a collection, this has to be a strong contender. Both record and cover will prove immensely difficult to find better and merit my highest possible recommendation.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
