Description
A chance to bid for an extremely rare 1971 Laminated Sleeve Edition of David Bowie's Classic lp Hunky Dory.As great as this classic lp is sales were fairly moderate at first,fast forward a few months into 1972 and Bowie & Ziggy went Intergalactic.In the context of this lp only the first run of this edition came with laminated sleeve and shortly all sleeves were matte card.This albums also contains the original sepia paper lyric sheet.I have used a top quality Audiophile QRP inner sleeve as the original paper one was trashed.On to the vinyl and the matrix numbers of this copy are

The vinyl is pretty clean,the odd light mark and a bit of storage haze and sleeve removal in the dead wax at the end of both sides.Old lp inners were known to have caused these cosmetic blemishes.All in all it's all pretty good and more than acceptable for a 52 year old lp that has been looked after. When play tested using an Audio Technica VMN95ML cartridge on my 1976 Sony PS 1750 Turntable the only things really to say are that the playback was great..virtually no crackle and only the odd light tick on short passages on 2 or 3 tracks mostly on Side 1 track 3 Eight Line Poem but nothing sustained or anything that spoils the listening pleasure of this fantastic lp.I leave it to the next owners own cleaning regime that may or may not reduce even these mild background ticks. We all use different methods and many use deep cleaning which is too expensive for me personally.For the condition of this prized laminated cover please see all the pictures.It's not a mint example but save some odd laminate foxing and creasing and slight edge/corner wear its more than acceptable.There is a 1-1 1/2 mm gap between the laminate and the opening edge of the sleeve so its not completely covered but this happened sometimes in the manufacturing process in the 60s and 70s..There is very small section missing at this edge but the laminate at the side of it is not loose or peeling.I believe in describing my items for sale as completely and honestly as i can and im sure the auction winner will not be disappointed.Any questions as always are more than welcome.Good luck and thanks for popping in 😊
After a question from an ebayer regarding the vinyl and its matrix in my auction and it being the 'wrong vinyl for this laminated sleeve' ..i can safely say after a lot of research that this is not necessarily the case..The history of this lp and its release has many matrix variants and is quite complicated..this original laminated sleeve was released in December 1971 but no one can say for certain how many of these sleeves were printed and whether its production carried over into 1972.The vinyl is the original one that was in the sleeve when i purchased it.Despite my research i cannot give a definitive answer to the original question but can say with certainty that this Edition is very rare and they don't show up for sale that often..Thanks as always for your question 😊
