NOTES...Captain Beyond - Same (1st) - Rare original UK Capricorn label 13-track 1972 first pressing vinyl LP housed in a striking artwork full colour cover. This self-titled 1972 Captain Beyond LP is a one-of-a-kind progressive album with psych rock, heavy metal, and jazz influences with a "space rock" lyrical bend. The band line up consists of former members of Deep Purple (Rod Evans, vocals), Iron Butterfly (Rhino, lead guitar, and Lee Dorman, bass), and Johnny Winter (Bobby Caldwell, drums). The album flows from riff to riff, drumbeat to drumbeat, often with various time signatures within the same song! This is a stunning hard rock / psych masterpiece without peer. Complex song structures, album concept and masterful execution are all top notch. From the first snare hit to the last note this LP delivers a sonic tapestry of progressive hard space rock that, quite honestly, will have you picking your jaw off the floor!! Mindblowing stuff!!! The music is an astonishing heavy progressive / psych , hard rock with great innovative heavy guitar playing, riff-oriented songs with a rock-solid rhythm section. Rod Evans vocals are powerful and at times blistering! Remember folks, his vocals with the original Deep Purple were fantastic too!  Rhinos guitar playing is stunning, no holding back, the whole album is packed full of hook-laden guitar lines that will be no surprise to those who remember Iron Butterfly. Lee Dorman on bass is another former member of Iron Butterfly. His complex basslines are a stabilizing force to be reckoned with. Then there is Bobby Caldwell from the Johnny Winter group on rhythmic and nimble drums throughout. If you're into progressive, hard psych-rock this album will be right up your street. From start to finish, each song seems to blend seamlessly into the next. Captain Beyond is one of the best heavy prog-rock albums ever made, hands down, bar none. Every song is a gem, from the very odd tempos of the opener "Dancing Madly Backwards" (On A Sea Of Air) to the loud & bombastic finale of "I Can't Feel Nothin' (Part 2)", the entire album utilizes "banding", where one song fades & blends into the next. It's a great mix of Heavy Prog with early proto-metal moves. Even though there are 13 tracks, it really sounds as if there are only 5 with tracks 1-3, 6-8 & 9-12 segueing together. Tracks 4 & 5 are the only individual songs that don't segue into each other or from other songs. In which case "Dancing Madly Backwards" is 9:19, "Thousand Days of Yesterdays" is 8:21, and "I Can't Feel Nothin'" is around 9:13. The closest you can compare this album to would be the classic early 70's era Deep Purple. Lyrically, the album differentiates itself by exploring themes of the outer world and meanings of existence, often with references to the moon, sea, sun, and so on. Listeners may get the feeling of taking a journey to space in a rocket ship headed for destination unknown. The tightness between musicians is enormous, never lets up for long, and leaves you feeling like the ride should continue for the indefinite future. This is truly a "cult" classic, a timeless conceptual masterpiece...The whole album simply rocks!! Don't miss this one!

Packing Procedures: All records are securely and well packed in top quality material to avoid any unnecessary damage during transit.When posted the records are removed from the covers,if possible,and placed in a PVC outer protective sleeve to prevent any sleeve splits in the post. I use brand new top quality mailers, either the envelope style with super thick stiffeners to stop any sleeve bends in transit, or the “cruciform” style that wrap around the 12"/lp. I aim to dispatch within 48 hours of receiving payment . It is recommended that you choose the option for recorded delivery (within UK) or registered delivery (for Europe and Rest of the World) for higher value items . I cannot be held responsible for items lost or damaged that are not shipped by recorded / registered mail . I obtain a certificate proof of posting for every item sent .
