Incredibly rare factory sealed copy of the original 1st pressing of Black Sabbath’s second studio album released in the US in January, 1971. The legendary album featuring the monolith hit singles “War Pigs”, “Iron Man”,“Fairies Wear Boots” and the title track “Paranoid”, which remains the only Black Sabbath’s single to occupy the 4th place in the British chart. As a free bonus to the album we’ve included a Warner Bros. promotional 7” 45 RPM copy of this single. This is a very rare example where the “Paranoid” track stops abruptly right after Ozzy Osbourne sings “I wish I could but it’s too late” unlike the LP version where we hear the guitar part after the vocals at the end of the song. Very early 1st pressing copy with the front of the gatefold cover containing an ultra-rare hype sticker that can be found only on the very early US pressing copies when the cover was used as a platform for advertising and promoting hit singles. Original 2.5” round white hype sticker with the catalog number reads “Contains the Hit Single ‘Iron Man’ WS-1887 Printed in U.S.A.” The catalog number also can be found on the front cover and the spine, above the album’s title and “Printed in U.S.A.” text. I’m sure you know the story about the fact that initially the album was going to be called “War Pigs”. Even though the band denied any connection between the Vietnam War and the album's title, the Warner Bros. label insisted on changing the title to “Paranoid” but didn’t bother changing the cover art which depicts a man with a sword wearing a pig costume. Speaking of the cover art, among the credits located on the gatefold interior of all issues one can find the “Design [Album], Photography By – Keef” credit. “Keef” refers to the legendary British photographer and designer Keith MacMillan who had a quite unusual fate. Please make sure to go to his Wikipedia page and read his amazing bio. Also, I’d highly recommend you to find the February 13, 2020 issue of the "Rolling Stone” magazine with the article written by Kory Grow called “That Evil Kind of Feeling”: The Inside Story of Black Sabbath’s Iconic Cover Art”. This is a great article that goes into details about the creation and realization of MacMillan’s cover art for Black Sabbath’s first album. There are no doubts that this factory sealed copy is a very early pressing containing the Warner Bros. army green labels with the “WB” orange-blue shield logo, which is the fifth Warner Bros. Records label variation, that was used in between 1970 and 1973, and the second green label variation. (The first green label variation has a “W” logo and “Warner Bros. – Seven Arts Records” printed at the top. Outstanding copy of Black Sabbath’s second studio album. Impossible to find a copy of this album in a Mint factory sealed condition containing the original hype sticker.

The album is in great condition. The shrink wrap is fully intact containing two breathe holes on the back cover and it doesn't have any splits, tears or missing pieces, only some very light shelf wear. The vinyl of the "Paranoid" 45 RPM single is in Very Good Plus condition having a few very light non-feelable surface marks and scuffs that doesn't affect the playback. It sounds amazing with a soft vivid Mono sound. The clean white labels are graded as Near Mint, just like the Warner Bros. picture sleeve that doesn't have any splits or tears.
