Really nice copy of the absolute FIRST PRESSING of this classic hard to find album from 1971.
Bridget St. John. Songs For The Gentle Man. Dandelion UK. Great gentle female psych folk with Ron Geesin. Amazing textured thick gatefold. One of the nicest covers you will find. This is an amazing British original copy complete with the original inner sleeve! This is a tough record to find very clean like this one. One of the best copies to be offered on ebay ever!
Songs for the Gentle Man is the second album by the British singer-songwriter Bridget St John. Released on John Peels Dandelion label in 1971. An accomplished guitarist she was mentored by John Martyn.
Bridget's first album Ask Me No Questions largely consisted of voice and guitar only but for this recording producer Ron Geesin very sparingly added strings, woodwind, brass and other guitars to Bridget's voice and guitar. The songs themselves are stronger and more melodic on this album. Songs are largely written by St John although there are versions of John Martyn's "Back To Stay" and Donovan's "The Pebble And The Man".
This is recommended to fans of more introspective folky artists such as Vashti Bunyan and Nick Drake.
She stopped recording in 1974 and emigrated to the USA. Little has been heard of her since but she was a backing vocalist on Mike Oldfield's Anorak album and has appeared with Kevin Ayres
In all my years this is only the first time I have come across this PSYCH/FOLK classic album. Unbelievably hard to find!! Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.
Vinyl condition: A solid EX condition! Lightly played as can be seen from the few spindle traces but this has clearly been looked after very well as most folk albums tend to be in my opinion. No marks. One very light hairline on side 1. fantastic audio on replay. Very clear stereo with great separation. A sublime dandelion recording!!!
Gatefold sleeve condition: EX condition again. This has been looked after very well. There are no creases. The lush sleeve is beautifully textured, also from the inside. The spine is fully readable all the print is clear. It had one small repair (nearly invisible to a top edge seamsplit. This is the only flaw if that's what you would like to call it.
Labels: Unmarked, no writing or smudging. Solid EX or better.
Rarity: Extremely rare, nowadays impossible to find.
