Description

BEATLES UK – Rubber Soul very first press, original Stereo with an ultra rare ‘E J Day’ sleeve.

PCS 3075 – original black and yellow Parlophone labels.

A very first UK Stereo pressing in original condition, featuring:

1. A very hard to find original first press Stereo sleeve printed not by ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’, but by ‘E J Day’.

By 1965 in the UK there were virtually NO Beatle LP record sleeves being made by the printing company ‘E J Day’, this was apparently due to management changes within the company.

With the exception of the Beatles first LP ‘Please Please Me’ it is very hard to find an original Stereo Beatle LP sleeve printed by ‘E J Day’, Mono ‘E J Day’ sleeves are not that uncommon.

An original first press, (made of thicker card) Stereo ‘E J Day’ Rubber Soul sleeve is the rarest of all the Stereo ‘E J Day’ Beatle LP sleeves. Making these ultra rare Stereo ‘E J Day’ sleeves near impossible to find.

2. this ultra rare ‘E J Day’ Stereo sleeve to the rear, the photos appear very grainy in appearance, also there are some ‘mispress blobs’ of ink, most noticeable seen on the hips of George and to the chin of Ringo, see photo. These ‘blobs’ of ink are part of the original ink that was used when the sleeve was printed and have not been added later !.

3. the record doe not have any ‘Mother’ numbers stamped onto the ‘run off’ grooves, to add to this intrigue the ‘Stampers’ on each side just appear as the letter ‘G’ !, being the very earliest you can have !.  Could this be a pre production record without its ‘Mothers’ engraved ?.

4. the letter style on the record labels appear as the ‘Roman’ style, yet the record matrix is 3 / 3,  these ‘Roman’ font labels normally appear with a 2 / 2 matrix !

CONDITION:

THE MAIN SLEEVE: is in very good condition, the sleeve is fully laminated. The sleeve is ultra rare, as it is made by ‘E J Day, nearly all these Stereo sleeves were made by ‘Garrod and Lofthouse’. The sleeve is made of the original tri-flipback design to the rear. The spine is in very good condition and most of the text on the spine is clear to read. There are NO splits or tears on the sleeve. To the rear bottom, right corner there is a slight water mark and to the rear bottom, left there is a discrete set of initials written in pen.

THE INNER SLEEVE: is in good++ condition and is in original ‘Use Emitex’ sleeve. A very clean sleeve. Theres NO pen writing, stickers or sticker residue. There is some splitting to the two side edges.

THE VINYL: is in good ++ condition. The vinyl has been played many times, it is made of the period ‘thick, heavy’ vinyl.

The Matrix are:   YEX  178 - 3    and    YEX  179 - 3,

The Mother / Stampers are: very unusual as there are NO ‘Mothers’ !, the ‘Stampers’ are equally intriguing as they appear as just the letter ‘G’ ! on each side.

THE AUDIO: is good, it plays with much in the way of crackle, ‘tick’ and ‘pops’.  The record lays flat on the turntable.

THE LABELS: are in very good+ condition, the letters ‘K T’ are embossed around the spindle hole on side one. The labels are free from any pen writing, stickers or sticker residue.
