1978 ORIGINAL BOOT PRESSING (As All Versions Are)
SPRO-9462~ CAPITOL RECORDS ~ MONO & STEREO
An interesting bootleg album, identical in concept to the Capitol Rarities album, surfaced on the American collectors market several months prior to the official release of Rarities. Titled The Beatles Collector's Items, it was remarkably similar in content to Randall Davis' compilation (Mr. Davis was Capitol’s Merchandising and Advertising Director). The LP even bore a fictitious Capitol Records catalog number (Capitol SPRO 9462) and counterfeit Capitol labels. This limited edition sixteen-track record gained quite a reputation among collectors for its surprisingly well-conceived sleeve design and graphics and it is this copy (as 2 of the 3) that has a hand etched Matrix 9462 A & B number. The back of the jacket offered concise liner notes on the origin of each track along with black and white photos of all the Beatles' previous Capitol Albums. 1000 copies were initially pressed with a handful being pressed with only plain yellow labels (whether these were intended for release has never been confirmed, but a good 1500 exist), with no expense being spared in the graphics design and printing of the jackets and purple Capitol labels (at great risk to copyright laws should the creators be apprehended no doubt).

SideTwo; Penny Lane, the composite version - Baby You're A Rich Man, true stereo - I Am The Walrus, the composite version - The Inner Light, single - Across The Universe, Version 1 produced by George Martin - You Know My Name , Look Up The Number, single. Yet many sites will insist there are three more tracks on some copies which are Side One; Paperback Writer and Side Two; She Loves You & I am The Walrus....and these tracks are not clearly marked on the vinyl by the typical deadwax groove separations. The album cover is nice condition NM. Album and insert are NM. This is on the purple capitol label. Please see my many great listings this week!!
