This auction is for a very rare, original pressing of the American Beatles LP 'A Hard Day's Night' on the United Artists label.

This pressing is a highly collectible contract pressing from Monarch (Los Angeles, California), identified by the circled MR stamp in the deadwax. These presses are highly siginifcant as they're one of the very few that actually spelled the song title "I'll Cry Instead" correctly on the labels. The vast majority of copies, the standard releases, misspelled it as "I Cry Instead". The Monarch presses are also noted for lacking the song running times after each track.

The Monarch contract presses only made up for a very small amount of overall copies pressed. Not only that, but this is the much rarer STEREO pressing of the album! Back in 1964 mono presses vastly outsold stereo, making the original stereo presses highly sought after!

A very rare copy of this highly collectible album. Would look great in any Beatles collection!

The cover is holding up pretty nicely - nicer than I usually see these more fragile US sleeves. The front has a good colour that has attracted a little dirt buildup and some light ring wear. There's a little rubbing around the edges and the corners are rounding a little. The top right corner has a small crease in it. Top seam is looking good with a little wear buildup as it gets to the mouth, but hasn't split. The bottom seam is showing a shade more wear but, again, hasn't split. The spine has a few little wearspots on it but, overall, is looking good with no splitting and most fully legible. There's just a touch of wear over the A in "A Hard Day's Night" and a little over the catalogue number at the top. The back has some light ring wear and browning around the edges. there's some kind of brown stain down the mouth edge and a little more along the bottom as you can see in the above photos. The number 5 is at the bottom right. Overall, looking good with some general, light wear and tear.   Inner Sleeve: G

The original United Artists inner sleeve is included. It's yellowed a little with a little wear around the opening at the top. The side seams have split a little in the middle and the bottom has split more (by about 5 inches).   Disc (Visually Graded Only!!) : VG++

The playing surface has a really nice shine to it. There's some light scuffing and marks but I cannot see anything serious. Looking good!

The labels are clean but are looking everso slightly tired. The silver text looks slightly faded and there's a little white residue spots. There's some spindlewear and a little centre whitening, but nothing at all serious. Check out the photos above. Overall, labels are looking alright.
