R.E.M. : Unplugged 1991 & 2001 (The Complete Sessions) 4LP Box Set RSD 2014

This relatively rare and very collectable vinyl set is in superb condition with audio that cannot be faulted in any way, the clarity is just exceptional!  This 4LP acoustic set was released on vinyl for Record Store Day in 2014 and you will not find one that plays better than this!  and as detailed below I have played every track in full so as to provide a 'complete' grading.  This limited edition was pressed on black vinyl in very limited numbers and it is said that probably 1000 were pressed for the US market and 1500 for the rest of the world i.e. very limited!

Visual description

The vinyls are all in fantastic condition and still have that immaculate jet-black 'shop fresh' look.  There are no marks or scratches and only a handful of very faint sleeve removal hairlines.  Probably never played before and hardly ever removed from their sleeves also.  The labels are 'as new' with no spindle wear and there is still some vinyl 'flecking' around the spindle holes which you only find on unplayed/hardly played vinyls.

Play grading

This acoustic 'set' showcases just how stunning Stipe's voice - so unique and so strong and clear.  One of favourite 'modern' bands I have played every side in full (hardly a chore!) and I can confirm the sonic quality is STUNNING throughout with almost zero intrusion.  The clarity, definition and warmth of the audio is equal to that of an unplayed record and indeed I doubt if any of the records have been played prior to my play testing.  I cannot emphasise enough just how pristine the audio is - I detected only a hint of mega light static on 'Belong' on S2 and one light tick on 'Country Feedback'.  There are no clicks or pops and no intrusive static at all, in essence I do not think the 8 sides could play any better, this truly is a superb 'box set' in every regard and getting harder to find with each passing year especially in this condition.

Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

The records have been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine

I grade according to "Record Collector" guidelines.
