This is an original 1962 U.S. Regal Records (Fort Pierce FL local label) 45 RPM 'Northern Soul' single titled 'Played Out Playgirl'/'I Can't Understand' from 'Northern Soul' and Carolina 'Beach Music' favorite Arthur Freeman. It is Regal Records catalog number 660R-7257, and appears to be a RARE ITEM which has not been offered on eBay either at auction or at fixed price sale during the past month as far as I can tell. 'Played Out Playgirl' is the same song that was re-recorded by Arthur Freeman five years later in 1967 for Excello Records; the 1967 recut became a 'Northern Soul' and Carolina 'Beach Music' club favorite - The record on offer here is NOT the same cut as was released on Excello, this is the ORIGINAL 1962 RECORDED VERSION of 'Played Out Playgirl', a totally different and somewhat cruder sounding production. 'Played Out Playgirl' is a nice midtempo shuffling dancer, 'I Can't Understand' is a deep soul ballad. Condition of vinyl play surface is a high VG+ with all original gloss and a small amount of light surface marks, mainly on the B-side, which appear to have been the result of light use in a jukebox, and which cannot be felt and will not affect play. Labels have a little contact wear as can be seen in the accompanying image, no writing, stickers, tears, or other problems. I have previously listed other copies of this 45 a few times during the past few years, and it has always sold at ending prices well into three figures, hence the opening bid price in this auction. This rare ORIGINAL CUT 45 would make a choice addition to any 'Northern Soul' record collection!
