Description

Here is a VERY RARE ORIGINAL 1956 "CHET BAKER & CREW" on PACIFIC JAZZ, PJ-1224.
THIS CAME FROM A RECENT ESTATE SALE OF AN ELDERLY MAN WHO WORKED PASSED AWAY, I WAS FIRST TO GO THROUGH HIS RECORD COLLECTION & CHERRY PICKED IT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS IS BEING OFFERED PUBLICLY! I'M NOT A RECORD DEALER OR COLLECTOR, THOUGH I DID COLLECT RECORDS FOR MANY YEARS IN MY YOUTH AND AM ABLE TO HONESTLY EVALUATE RECORDS. I DON'T OWN A RECORD PLAYER, SO I CAN'T TEST ANY FROM THIS SMALL COLLECTION, BUT ALL APPEAR IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, I ONLY GOT THE ONES THAT APPEARED IN GREAT CONDITION.

If you're looking at this you probably know how rare this 12" record is. The record is not marked as Stereo or Mono, just High Fidelity, but I assume it's in Mono. The record center label is black with silver print, this shows up as white in my photo because of camera flash. The label is marked as 33 1/3 RPM & Microgroove. It is Copyright dated 1956 at the bottom of the back cover. The record appears to only have been played a couple of times on side 2 & probably only once on side 1, this is because on side 2 you can see a couple of very faint marks where the spindle touched it, this shows up against the flat black label. The record is in excellent condition- no visible scratches or wear. The cover is in good condition. The front cover displays very nicely- no white marks from wear, just very nominal surface wear near the top, middle & bottom. There is corner wear to all 4 corners, a tiny 1/2" chipping of the surface paper at the lower right corner with a very fine 1 3/4" split there. There is a 2" split at the very bottom center edge from the LP cutting into it. There is a 1/4" edge wear mark at top center area edge and a couple of very light edge marks. The bottom left edge has light wear near corner. The back side has a 3/4" dull area that is light- see photo. See photo for song titles. The LP is in a vintage, non-original plain white paper sleeve. I will keep the record out of the cover now & when mailing, both will be protected. I am shipping in a nice home-made cardboard box. If you have any questions whatsoever ask before bidding, especially if you're using a Snipe program. I may take bid from overseas, send me an email for that.

Details Playing time: 63 min. Contributing artists: Bobby Timmons Producer: Richard Bock

Recording type: Live Recording mode: HighFidelity

Album notes Personnel: Chet Baker (vocals, trumpet); Phil Urso (tenor saxophone); Bobby Timmons (piano); Jimmy Bond (bass); Peter Littman (drums); Bill Loughbrough (tympani).
Recorded at the Forum Theater, Los Angeles, California on July 24, 25 & 31, 1956. Includes original liner notes by Woody Woodward.
This astounding live set was recorded with Chet Baker's regularly touring ensemble at the Forum Theater in Los Angeles in 1956, after the trumpeter's return from an extensive European tour. The group is incredibly in sync and agile on the many intricate arrangements. Of special note is the presence of percussionist Bill Loughbrough who contributes three performances on his unusual chromatic tympani, or "boobams," which are his own invention.
Baker is self-assured and in excellent form here, blowing many fine solos in his classic "cool" style. Tenor man Phil Urso and pianist Bobby Timmons are in equally good form, supporting Baker with flawless precision and taste. Baker's only vocal performance comes on the Gerry Mulligan original "Line For Lyons." Other notable cuts include Mulligan's "Revelation," the Latin-esque "To Mickey's Memory," and Al Cohn's swinging "Music to Dance By." Taken as a whole, this set is a nice snapshot of Baker in performance at the peak of his early popularity.

ATTENTION- EBAY HAS INITIATED AN DETAILED SELLER RATING USING A STAR POINT SYSTEM- IN MY OPINION THIS IS NOT FAIR ON 2 OF THE 4 AREAS- TIME OF SHIPPING & SHIPPING COST- I ALWAYS MAIL BY THE NEXT MAILING DAY AFTER PAYMENT, I USUALLY GO TO THE POST OFFICE EVERY DAY, MOST PEOPLE ARE HAPPY WITH MY SHIPPING TIME, BUT UNDERSTAND THAT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DELIVERY TIME AFTER IT LEAVES MY HANDS-- ALSO MOST IMPORTANTLY- MY SHIPPING CHARGES ARE VERY FAIR- I AM FORCED TO MAKE THEM AS LOW AS POSSIBLE TO GET A SALE, MY CHARGES ARE STATED UP FRONT- THEREFORE IF A BUYER READS MY LISTING AND AND AGREES TO BUY MY ITEM, THEN DINGS ME AFTERWARDS ON THE DETAILED SELLER RATING THAT THEY DIDN'T LIKE MY SHIPPING CHARGE, THAT IS REALLY WRONG ON THE BUYER'S PART, SO IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY SHIPPING CHARGE THEN PLEASE DON'T BID OR BUY MY ITEM- I AM FAIR TO BUYERS- PLEASE BE FAIR TO ME. I strive to provide my buyers with 5 STAR service in all categories. I try to provide a complete and accurate description of the product, I charge only a reasonable amount of handling, commensurate with the amount handling performed, I ship within 1 working day of payment, I let my buyer know when their item is being mailed within hours of payment received and I will work with the buyer in the event that there is an issue with the item. If I do not provide you with 5 star service, please let me know so that I can improve. I AM DESCRIBING THIS AS BEST AS I CAN- IF FOR ANY REASON YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE ITEM BECAUSE OF THE DESCRIPTION NOT MEETING YOUR EXPECTATIONS THEN CONTACT ME FIRST BEFORE LEAVING FEEDBACK SO I CAN REMEDY THE PROBLEM.
