In 1958 the first record to be published by Berry Gordys publishing company Jobete named after his children Hazel (jo),(Be)rry and (Te)rry was-

Herman Griffin,I need you on HOB, and this is the first time the Rayber Voices are credited on vinyl.

Rayber Voices being named after his second wife (Ray)mona and (Ber)ry,one and the same!

Berry was living at 1719 Gladstone St, Detroit. and shortly after this Berry secured $800 to Start his own record label Tamla.

Initially Berry wanted to call it Tammy after a Debbie Reynolds Movie!

Thank God the name couldnt be used for legal reasons else things might have been very different?

Berry,Raymona and a young Marv Johnson recorded,Come to me / Whispers, in the christmas of 58, The Record was Released in Jan 59.It was only a local release and shortly after this Berry moved to 2648 West Grand Boulevard (Hitsville USA) Where with a young Smokey Robinson and Barret Strong minor sucess was found with Bad Girl and Money.

Then in August 1960 Shop Around was recorded and released in the October and the rest is history.

This the First Tamla Release is one of only 6 further recordings that can be found on this design,after that it became Tamla Stripes!

Mel-o-dy 101 was the first record to be put out on this subsidiary Label,

The Creations were-Rob Williams,Juan Wingard,Faye Hale and Charles Holman.

were recorded in June 62 and released the following month.

This was the First on a catalogue of 21 recordings But ONLY the first 5 are soul related

The rest being country recordings.The next 4 were Lamont Dozier,Dearest one/Fortune teller me, Vells(martha &vandellas) Youll never cherish a love so true/There he is at my door, Charters, Trouble Lover/Show me some sign(only on test press so scarce)and The Pirates(Temptations)Mind over matter/Love you till i die.

The Melody label is seen as a green design swirled melody from right to left

Its breaking my heart to sell this one but needs must.

Condition wise Tamla 101 Come to me has background hiss all through which is a pity.G

Whispers Fortunately plays pretty good and is a VG + or close

Melody 101 is a fair Excellent and you will not find better ,thats if you can find it?

Youre my inspiration not quite as good but still up there, Vg++

Both Discs are moulded over labels on vinyl.

For any collector these are essential recordings and Historic.
