tears along edge where the record slips inside the jacket (see image), sleeve otherwise nice. signed & embellished by silva on back cover (see image). record play grades m- (played on thorens td 520 w/ shure V15Vx). recorded paris november 1978 this is a rare & sometimes overlooked album from a fascinating period in silva's history, after COTW & prefiguring IACP. writes the estimable dan warburton on bagatellen, "surely one of the world's most unfairly neglected big band albums, and worthy of comparison with any Gil Evans you'd care to mention." true dan the gil evans & indeed kenton influences underlying silva's concepts for jazz orchestra are more to the foreground here. the presence of african musicians (including an african percussionist) further transforms. still the language is unmistakably silva, right down to alan dedicating the record (a "she," according to his notes) to "all small women."
