Description
This is an original Mono UK 1st press of The Zombies excellent 1965 debut album entittled Begin Here with catalogue number LK 4679!!. IT is valued at £250 ( UK Pounds) in the Record Collector Rare Record Price Guide 2008. This is an incredibly rare album as it did not chart in the UK even though it is an excellent album musically and includes their best known hit single 'Shes Not There'. This album deserves its iconic status in the history of 60s Pop/Beat!! This is a wonderfully complete and original copy!
The original flipback sleeve is in VG++ condition with no major rips or tears as shown in the photos below which are of the actual LP for sale. There is some detachment of the lamination to the front cover but it is intact and does not spoil the picture of the group in magenta and black! The text on the back of the flipback sleeve introducing the Zombies is clear to read and clean as shown. The back is not laminated and hence there is normal yellowing characteristic of a record with an age of 41 years!! There is no writing to the cover!! I am being very harsh with my grading here at vg++ as used by the Record Collector Rare Record Price Guide!.
The LP comes with its its original and correct DECCA lined inner which is in ex- condition. Once again some yellowing and light corner creasing are inevitable given its age but there are no major rips or tears and the polythene inner is still stuck to the outer paper liner!
The disc is in vg condition. Once again I am being conservative here with my grading. I have played the LP on my system (Garrard 401) and the sound quality is truly amazing giving the characteristic Mono punch out of the speakers!! The vg grading is given because there are a number of surface marks on both sides. However, these do not effect play and the surface noise is minimal. To me, the record plays like an ex disc indeed, I would suspect that the last track on side 1 'Shes not There' has been played more than the rest of the LP and hence the sound quality of the LP has been largely preserved! In my opinion this is truly a wonderful copy and I have very much enjoyed listening to it whilst grading! The label is the original unboxed DECCA red Mono type with a inner ridge as shown in the photo. There is no writing or discolouration on either of the labels and the spindle hole is still crisp and strong. The Matrix Numbers are ARL 6710-1A on both Sides 1 and 2!! Making this an incredibly rare 1st press of the LP.
This LP in this very enjoyable condition very rarely comes up for sale and I would strongly advise you to try and win this auction, otherwise you may have to wait a considerable time for another to become available if at all!
