Original vinyl pressing by Charles Amirkhanian on 1750 Arch Records label following the tradition of sound poets like Henri Chopin, Bernard Heidsieck, Ake Hodell, Francois Dufrene, Brion Gysin, William Burroughs and others. Great mix of tapes, voice manipulation & field recordings!!

Released in 1980, this first solo LP by Charles Amirkhanian contains a selection of his text-sound compositions including Dutiful Ducks, Mugic and Seatbelt Seatbelt. With influences from Ernst Toch's 1930 Geogbrphical Fugue and Kurt Schwitters Ursonate to Gertrude Stein, Clark Coolidge and Steve Reich, Amirkhanian fashions words into percussion objects, layering them countrapuntally and non-syntactically. The resulting sounds lead to a reexamination of spoken language and its musical essence. Compositions: SIDE ONE Muchrooms (for John Cage); Mahogany Ballpark; she she and she (for Gertrude Stein's centennial); SIDE TWO Mugic; Seatbelt Seatbelt; Dutiful Ducks. Note: "Muchrooms", not Mushrooms, is correct.

Intertwining instrumental sounds, texts, and environmental samples, Charles Amirkhanian creates dreamy and disjointed durations of immersive experience. A synthesis of electronic and acoustic effects, voices and background noise, his compositions strive to capture listeners' bodies and minds in tonal and textural entanglements, reticulated rhythms, and syntactical assemblages. This is not the kind of aural experience to wash the dishes to - it begs us to sit down, sink down, and do nothing but listen.

You can imagine Amirkhanian as the listening world's version of John Rauschenburg. Carrying a recording device wherever he goes, Amirkhanian is a gatherer of sounds, sampling everything from the birds outside his home to Armenian folk songs. He experiments with distance, capturing certain sounds up close and others at a far remove - he layers his compositions with these distances, their multiplication creating an almost bottomless sonorous depth. Mixing the familiar with the unrecognizable, the referential with the abstract, his tangles tease us with moments of memory and recognition twisted beyond their quotidian contexts.

Amirkhanian was a contemporary with composer like John Cage, Henry Jacobs, Lejaren Hiller and of course Henk Badings, David Tudor, Tom Dissevelt, Tod Dockstader, Herbert Eimert, Gottfried Michael Koenig, also the musique concrete school of Pierre Henry, Pierre Schaeffer. It seems that although today the work of Amirkhanian is pretty uknown, he was appreciated and influenced vastly a big number mainly of american composers, such as Udo Kasemets, Roger Reynolds and of course Jon Appleton, Ruth Anderson, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Larry Austin, while also he could have influenced Jerry Hunt, Bulent Arel, Daria Semengen, Glenn Branca, Bruce Haack, Phil Niblock and why not Joseph Celli, Joel Chadabe, Charlemagne Palestine, Noah Creshevsky, Charles Dodge, David Cope and Dub Taylor. 

Vinyl lies in mint condition, nearly impossible to find a better copy today, plays great(playgraded), while cover is a still presentable vg+, mainly with a bottom left crashed corner and general storage wear!! ...impossible to find in any condition!!
