Released in 1977, this fits in perfectly in the early 70’s U.K. folk/prog scene. It is exactly the kind of album of its genre that I seek, and offers all of the ingredients for a great record in my book. It’s what I typically refer to as Celtic folk, characterized by moderate to soft material, male/female vocal harmony, and genre relevant acoustic instruments such as acoustic guitar, tambourine, flute/recorder, violin/fiddle, etc. All are found here, and with keenly insightful, often poignant, well written songs. These albums generally borrow and rework some traditional tunes as well, and this one is no exception. It’s no wonder this has become a sought after collector’s item for genre fans. Though listing only three members as part of the band, they have extensive help from one Tony Selvage on violin throughout this LP. His input is vital to the resulting sound. All-in-all, I was quite pleasantly surprised with this one, never expecting such a comparatively late release to carry on the (by then) lost tradition of great folk/prog. They even dress up the parts on the cover, appearing in full gypsy regalia. Both vocalists have truly wonderful voices, and would have been standouts in any band they appeared in. Sadly, leader Gary Creighton died shortly after this was finished of an apparent heart condition. R.I.P.

An amazing artifact of the short epoch of hippie-folk renaissance in the second half of the 70’s . Effective combination of male and female vocals, against the background of acoustic guitars, cello, flute, “flower” percussion and other ingredients of the sound texture of the sixties in an irreproachably measured proportion. “Children Of The Mist” (Children of the Mist) is the only entry to date in the Yellow Autumn archive . The record is exceptionally rare: it was originally produced by the label “Vala Records” with a circulation of 250-500 copies and was not available on digital media yet. Italian company Mellotron Records in 2011year re-released the album on color vinyl, equipped with a reprint of the original envelope design, with a hip-pop group photograph on the front side made in a picturesque ravine on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in California . The total number released 100 units.
The group “Yellow Autumn” was founded by the Californian musician Gary Creighton (Gary Creighton) , whose stylistic preferences were in the field of progressive music, blues, psychedelics and folk rock. The team performed with small creative timeouts for a number of years, during which its name changed from “Yellow Autumn Orchestra” to “Yellow Autumn Minstrels” , until finally it was fixed in the most concise version. The musical biography of the ensemble is divided into three main historical stages. The first - covers the period from the late sixties, until the early seventies. Gary Craight - behind the drum set. The second convocation of “Yellow Autumn” occurred in1972 and was dissolved in 1973 . This lineup achieved the signing of a contract for sound recording, but the disc for unknown reasons never appeared on the shelves of music stores. The third variation on the theme of “Golden Autumn” was formed in 1977 and in addition to the band’s leader, the band consisted of: Gary Craighton’s wife - singer, guitarist, tambourine player Lorraine Dechter and flutist / cellist Erb Swanigan .
Gary Craight . A unique poet and musician. Fruitfully cooperated with his best friend and co-author Joseph Pusey. Together they wrote a large number of excellent songs, imbued with warmth and unselfish love for people, including for the record “Children Of The Mist” and Piusi’s solo album “In My Lady’s Chamber” , released in the same year. In addition, they jointly participated in numerous projects, among which we can mention “The Strawberry Roan” (‘68 -'69) ; “Creiseypughton” ('71 -'72) , with the participation of John Pusey ; “Ribbongrass” ('73 -'75) , also with Joseph’s brother; a very eclectic collective “Mog Ruith” ('74 - “76) , with Erb Swenigen and Joy Sassoon (Joy Sassoon) in the composition; "Mistress Quickly” ('74 -'77) , led by the original member of Yellow Autumn, Tom Kelly and Dave Hurst , playing keyboards and percussion instruments. Gary Craight died from congenital heart disease in 1982 .
Erb Sweenigen . His real name is Herbert John Swanigan . A talented Californian multi-instrumentalist, fluent in a dozen different musical styles. Master of Music. He grew up in a musical family, his father was a jazz double bass player, and his cousin was a composer and producer of rhythm and blues records. He played with many performers and collectives, helping them to achieve an original sound. He composed music for television and independent cinema. He died on the eve of 2011 .
Lorraine Dechter. Vocalist of the group “Yellow Autumn” last convocation. Currently - a well-known radio presenter, producer, musicologist and director of news programs on “Northstate Public Radio” . The radio show “Good Old Fashioned Folk Music Show” , created by her together with her husband Gary Craight , dedicated to archaic blues, country and traditional folk music, lasted more than 30 years and always deserved respect among devotees of these genres.

The album “Children Of The Mist” was recorded in the studio “Media Arts” in Hermosa Beach. The assistant engineer on this record was the bass player of the band Black Flag , Glen Lockett , nicknamed Spot . A few weeks later, the “Black Flag” recorded in this studio its famous debut mini-album “Nervous Breakdown”.
