WRECKLESS ERIC - WHOLE WIDE WORLD - STIFF BUY 16 - WHITE LABEL/TEST PRESSING
Now then, now then, now then (apologies Sir Jim, grhs!)...here's a Huuuuuuuuuuuuuugely rare thing! A very early white label of a Stiff Records single. Come on...when was the last time you saw one huh? What's more, it's one of the all-time great Stiff singles too. 'Whole Wide World' by the dearly beloved Wreckless Eric! What a great song!
I've never seen one of these before and I've no idea of its significance in the Stiff hierarchy, but suffice to say, early examples of Stiff Records singles (i.e. first issues/promos/white labels etc) are extremely hard to come by!

As you can see, the record comes in a plain old Stiff Records sleeve (Today's Sound Today!). There are no identifying labels on the record, as it is a 'white label' copy on both sides, but at some stage in the past, someone has written 'Wreckless Eric Buy 16' on the A-side in ballpoint pen. I do have a 'standard copy' of 'WWW' which does have labels on it, but more importantly, the stampers in the run-offs match the ones on this record, so it is a genuine Stiff single, no doubt about that!
The record plays through cleanly and there are no scratches or jumps on it (on either side). At the start of side one, there is a bit of a rumble, but I think this is actually part of the pressing itself, because I can't see any defect on the record, even after a very comprehensive alcohol-based clean-up! It doesn't really detract from the sound of this great record though and when it gets going...well!
What else can I say about it? It's one of the all time great Stiff singles this...and it's an exceptionally rare beast. I'd say it's an absolute 'must have' for a collector of early Stiff singles. You'll undoubtedly be getting something that very few other people have ever got their paws on, that's for sure!
