Spectacular Buddy Holly Box set on Vigotone records from the mid-1990s.  With original plastic wrap. Everything is in near-mint shape. I bought it at an independent record store in the late 90s and it has sat in my drawer since then.  Lots of rarities on this bootleg from Australia. the book is way cool, too.

Introduction

          This set is not about the day to day details of Buddy Holly's life.   The story of Buddy Holly's rise to fame has been told very well in the number of books that have come out since the movie "That'll Be The Day" re-sparked interest in his music in the late 70's.  One that is particularly recommended is "Remembering Buddy" by John Goldrosen and John Beecher.  If you do not own this book, buy it.  It is the definitive book written with care by real fans.
          This set is not about greatest hits.  For that we recommend the two sets on MCA: "From The Original Master Tapes" and "Collection".
          This set is about the unreleased music of Buddy Holly.  Since Buddy's death, there have been a number of LP's released of previously unavailable material.  Almost all of the songs were overdubbed in a mostly heavy handed way.
   "The object of the releases should be to present the recordings in their original form, doing all possible to eliminate flaws (such as scratches on demos) without harming the sound.  Where the original pieces were unfinished, they should have been left that way.  As a parallel - consider the various modern LP releases of early jazz and blues recordings dating from the twenties.   Though the fidelity on these is poor by modern standards, no one suggests that new trumpet parts be added to Louis Armstrong's recordings, or that a vocal chorus should be added to sing along with Bessie Smith.  The buyers of these albums know what they are getting, but want the original material anyway.  It is my guess that Holly's fans would have reacted in a similar fashion."1
            The aim of this set is to do just that: present as much unreleased and alternate Buddy Holly music as we could find in its original form and from the best available sources.   We have done all possible to eliminate flaws: pops have been eliminated where possible without harming the fidelity of the music.  The music has been sequenced chronologically in order to illustrate Holly's growth as a performer and songwriter from his beginning at 13 years old to his last recordings from his New York apartment a few weeks before his death.  Much hard work has gone into putting this set together.   We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.
