Many serious Beatles collectors want Del Shannon's version of From Me To You because it was the first recording of a Lennon/McCartney song to make the U.S. Hot 100. Del's groundbreaking cover was on the chart for 4 weeks in the early summer of '63 & reached #77.
Liverpool's finest had issued the song themselves on VeeJay less than 2 months earlier, but From Me To You stiffed in 1963 America. Like its VJ predecessor Please Please Me, it failed to even make #100. By Summer 1963 VJ was out of the Beatles business. Brian Epstein had to beg Philly's Swan Records to issue the Beatles' 3rd 1963 U.S. single She Loves You...and it also bombed.
