I will always keep my P&P prices as low as possible, and even after yet another Royal Mail price hike from April this year, I have NOT raised my prices and will never compromise on solid, safe packing that is invariably heavier than most you will get. Label/Format: MCA – Full Pink format with matt, smooth surfaces, manufactured by Decca. These being the very first pressing format and one of the rarest of the MCA designs only available for a very short time.

Label Conditions: All four look very similar, that is very clean, fresh and attractive with only very light, fine and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. The odd friction scuff being critical on very revealing pale labels, side two has a three small recesses in manufacture as seen on the picture.

Cat Number: ULD 2-1/2.

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 125 / 127 grams. solid weights for this time.

Rarity: The actual album itself is fairly common, but I have rarely seen this title pressed with MCA pink labels. At first glance it could almost be mistaken for an early Island or Probe record. As stated this label had many version and in my experience anyway, this is the least seen or used. Not only that, both records appear hardly played and offer fantastic sound as you would from Decca-pressed records. This a genuine first pressed set and few were issued on this format before changing to the standard black ‘rainbow’ version. I have not seen or had a copy of this since 2008.

Brief Info: A brilliant double live set that features many of the early classics. Rarely seen this as a genuine first issue either with the very collectable pink MCA labels. This pressing offers the very best sound as well. Brilliant guitar-driven rock, this band were magnificent around this period and this set is testament to their quality. Any Wishbone fan or label collector is sure to enjoy this one.

Cover Grade and Format: Critically graded NEAR EXCELLENT: mainly due to a very small inside surface pull. An unlaminated gatefold format with matt, smooth surfaces. Printed in England by Robert Stace.

Cover Cosmetic Improvements: None Apparent.

Cover Front & Back: Yellow is even more revealing than white, so with both sides showing minimal traces of rubbing or grubbiness, these outside faces are quite impressive. A little mild dulling seen under light and hardly any creasing. All very respectable indeed and indeed will not prove easy to find a great deal better – and I would be most will not have the rare pink label records inside.

Cover Inner Gatefold: A small surface pull about quarter way down on the right edge, clearly this got stuck against the left side at some time with small residue directly opposite. This apart, little else to fault.

Top Edges: Straight with with hardly any real wear, just mildly darkened.

Bottom Edges: A little small rubbing to the front centre, not a great deal else on more vulnerable storage edges.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mainly sharp with little wear, any gentle thicking seen viewed end-on. Records entered on these edges that are both guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced in any way.

Spine and Text: Solid, thick, straight, uncompressed and folded close to square. All text is unworn and well centred, the actual edge probably faded as yellow tends to do in natural light.

Corners: Light to moderate with rubbing with the odd tiny tip crease or two. Fine to very fine shape largely retained.

Cover Summary: A highly respectable all-round example of this somewhat unforgiving 1970’s cover, one that could prove quite difficult to find much better. With wonderful contents inside, the cover should please many collectors but not the perfectionists of course.

The Inner Sleeves: Both EXCELLENT(+): at least. Two of the earlier-style Decca polylined inners that are a mirror-image pair with the first issue date codes of 11-73 (November 1973). Both clean and hardly aged with all window circles pristine and the linings clear. No edge splits or repairs and very little creasing, this pair the near perfect pair for this considerably rarer first pink label pressing.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: and this being very critical. A lovely visual pair that are very clean with very fine shine and solidly pressed, these have that typical quality feel of Decca records, if not quite the usual weight. A set little played on all the evidence with any surface marks being fine and faint as seen under bright angled light. No penetrating scratches and the sound is superb. Visually impressive records that should please many, if not most collectors.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play above their high visual grading with barely anything to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and detailed live sound with a very good production. Indeed this pair are likely to blow away the standard rainbow pressing with most all copies are found on. Any surface sounds barely even registered – even on the very quiet introductions that remain virtually devoid of crackle, pops or clicks. Fans who know these songs well will know they have very quiet moments at times, like the beginning of ‘The Pilgrim’ and ‘Warrior’, so a quality, quiet pressing is essential and this Decca-pressed first edition pair are certainly that. Few other copies or versions match, let alone outperform these I feel sure. Clearly little used, these proved an immensely enjoyable experience. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading these elusive pink pair. They will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
