Description
Offered is an extremely rare and sought-after extended-play 45 on RCA Camden, Waltzes by Johann Strauss, Jr. (CAE 158). performed by the Century Symphony Orchestra (pseudonym for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), issued in 1956. The cover art is by (then) up-and-coming commercial artist, Andy Warhol.
Last year, I found (and sold) the seventh known copy of this celebrated rarity. There were in fact two copies found in that cache of unsold 45s originally stocked by Jordan Marsh (a Boston retailer of yore). This is the second (and final) copy I discovered.
This one is almost as nice as the first...The Warhol art is as perfect as you're going to find on a record over 50 years old. The bottom and side seams are fine, but the top seam shows signs of wear. There is some flattening and an almost-unnoticeable 3-inch split, probably because the box it was in had another box of records on top of it, probably for many years. The split can be repaired easily with a toothpick and some white glue. That I will leave to the lucky buyer.
I cannot swear that the record is unplayed, but it does appear to be. There is a nick in the label on side two on the center hole (remember that Camden was RCA's cheaper product and quality-control wasn't always the best).
Buyer pays exact mailing charges shipped anywhere in the Continental U.S.A. (Priority, First Class, or Media Mail, your choice) or overseas (your choice of surface or air delivery) plus a modest $3.00 packing charge. Insurance is HIGHLY recommended.
I will not end this auction early, so please do not ask.
